Interesting... I have been putting the lit end facing the door, so I'll try the reverse next.
Well it worked for me with my latest setup. Going to see if the loader only partially pulled makes a difference and trying it with the lit end facing away.
When youy say Top Vent, are you referring...
I've been doing mine in the garage with the door open. Ill try outside next time. Looks like it worked well. I've tried pulling the loader out only 2" but have had no luck at all like that. Pulled the brisket. We will see how it tastes.
I'm using a mix of 1:1:1:1 Cherry, Hickory, Maple, and charcoal. For today's smoke, I put the hickory down in the trail and mixed up the rest and topped off.
I live in Chicago so altitude isn't an issue. They've been outside so maybe that's an issue..,
In actuality today it's burning...
I have a MES Digital 30 model with the SS and Window. I also own an AMNPS.
I am having issues getting it to burn all the way. I've only had it work once in 4 attempts. In the middle of attempt #5.
What I have tried...
#1- on mid rack. Lit for 5 minutes. Went out. Relit or 10 minutes...
Which MES 30 did you buy? I just got the 30 with the SS and Window from Bass Pro Shop on Black Friday. Couldn't pass that deal up. Finally let me part with "old bessie", which I admit, was a little painful.
I haven't used the AMNPS (although ordered one today). As far as amount of smoke, personally I feel it is a personal taste... Most of the smoke is imparted within the first several hours of smoking. I tend to keep adding chips throughout the entire process, more out of habit... since I came...
Out of curiousity, what IS the difference in construction between the sawdust and pellet AMN trays? I thought I read you could use Sawdust or Pellets in the AMNPS? Could you also do that in the AMNS or would that cause issues cause the channels are narrower... Doesn't matter to me as I went...
Didn't have a $100 to spend on the Maverick and AMNPS combo but got my boss to purchase an AMNPS package as well, so took advantage of the discount. Liking my new MES 30 and this will help increase the flavor!
Well, I seasoned my MES 30 today, then took it out for a ride. Cooked a small corned beef and potatoes. Was very impressed with how simple it was. Now just néed to get an AMNPS unit to give me more smoke and also to set and forget.
I'm new to the site so thought I'd say hi. I used to smoke with a Brinkmann cabinet smoker that had a side fire box, but since the littles one came and I started going to school again for my D.Sc I don't have the time to put into the "old school" smoker. So I just bought a MES 30 at Bass Pro...
I should also clarify... My question on the probe was about performance. Does it work well? Is the temp gauge in the smoker accurate or do I need to invest in a better temperature gauge such as a Maverick?
So I dragged myself out of bed at 3:30 am on Black Friday and picked up one of the MES 30 ss /w window from Bass Pro Shop for $179 (heck of a Deal I thought). I wanted to get some advice from others who have a similar smoker.
1). Seems like the A-Maze-n products are highly recommended. I...
