That's decent, I have found them cheaper. There is a place I talked to in Northeast GA that had them for closer to $1/lb trimmed. I'll see if I can find the contact info, I know its a farther drive though. Try calling around to processors and slaughter houses near you, if you are patient for hog...
Your smokehouse looks great! Will you have any direct heat source inside the smokehouse? If not, then I don't believe you need to use any kind of metal liner, the smoke should be cooled enough by the time it reaches the wood. Keep us updated!
Looks like you have a heck of a project there buddy. It can definitely be done if you have the patience and skills( or money). I would be happy to help on the PID if you go that route. I have a PID for sale as well as elements that would be perfect for that if you need any(not trying to make...
Well finally back to making some progress. Got a couple racks made the other day. Trying to hammer down and get this thing finished.

I have 4 Red Lion temp controllers. AKA PID controllers. These require only a supply, Solid State Relay and heating element and are very stable. These are a commercial controller and sale anywhere from $150 - $200. These are new and never used. I'm selling for $100 obo shipped to you. I will...
Galvanized is bad. The zinc coating releases chemicals when it hits a certain temp. I believe it's higher than what most smoke at but not worth the risk.
According to the specs it will go to 248 degrees, so as long as you don't ever intend to go above that you should be ok. I'm not familiar enough to say it would work for sure, but if you have one why not give it a shot. I personally like things simple in case it needs to be fixed, so hopefully...
That's the ones I looked at, the 2 inexpensive metal mailboxes both say galvanized steel. It may not get hot enough, just not sure it's worth the risk to me.
Ok, that makes sense. I don't see why it wouldn't work. I don't what the programming is like. In HVAC, when it requests heating/cooling is it just a single signal to a switch to come on? Or does it stay on at the relay until demand is met? I hope I worded that to make sense.
Hey there. I'm unfamiliar with that unit but looked it up. I'm not in HVAC but I am a field service tech for commericial food equipment. Typically outputs are solid state realys, the Honey lists the outputs as SPDT relays. I either don't know what those are or call them something else. In my...
I know several who use the mailbox mods on their smokers. My question is, most cheap metal mailboxes are just painted galvanized steel. Isn't anyone worried about the galvanized?
