I decided on the Large BGE. Since I live in SoCal, my backyard isn't very large and the XL is just too big. It's beautiful, don't get me wrong! But it requires more lump and more time to get up to temp. I think that if you use the large in conjunction with racks, you'll have plenty of space...
Because of a lack of time, my first "smoke" was only a spatchcock chicken. Sorry to disappoint:( Better things to follow! Anyhow, I did my chicken indirect with a drip pan (trying to compensate for not owning a raised grid) and it came out beautiful! Crispy, browned, juicy... and wayyyyyy too...
Did you add any additional wood to your charcoal pit? I just got a new Egg this week and did my first chicken that came out tasting "smoky", wayyyyyyy too smoky! And not a good smoky:( And what tem did you hold? 350ish?
So for my first BGE smoke, I made a spatchcock chicken. I don't have a raised grid so I did indirect cooking with a drip pan underneath to try and compensate. I had looked up suggestions on the way to cook it and one person had said NO CHUNKS OF WOOD! Well, I didn't follow his advice and put...
Do you use the foil pan throughout the whole process and cover with foil at the appropriate time? Or do you smoke it on the grates first then put it in the pan and cover it?
Well, I did it! I finally bit the bullet and got my BGE. Just freshly delivered today! I can't wait to fire it up and get started. Thanks for all the advice you have given me during this fact-finding mission of mine.
Have you or rhinton82 purchased a Weber Performer lately??? There are some negative reviews out there comparing the new ones to the old ones. Complaints of cheap/thin metal, steel grates that aren't stainless, legs that bend/fall out when moved. Seems like the old ones may have been built...
Hi there! So it's been almost a year since the big purchase. What's the latest opinion/news??? I'm debating between a BGE and a Primo. Suggestions? I like the oval design as it seems like it would hold ribs better. Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated! And what did you find the...
Brian, did you ever end up getting the BGE??? I'm in the market for one and I live near you (Tustin). Just wondering if you had any tips for me! Thanks.
I'm in need of some serious opinions! BGE or WSM??? I like the ability to "grill" on the BGE (can you do that on the WSM?) but I like that the WSM has double racks so you can smoke multiple dishes (beans, meat, etc) simultaneously. I know the cost of the BGE is double that of the WSM but I'd...
Is a stoker the type of thing that I don't have to have but might want to consider as I get more involved in the whole meat smokin process??? It's not a must have, is it? Also, have any of you ever tried an electric smoker. While I'm leaning toward the WSM, I was also looking at the MES40...
Thanks for the advice LGHT! Firstly, what's a "stoker" and where the heck did you find an 18" WSM for $45??? I've been to Barbecues Galore, Lowes and Home Depot and can't even find one to look at! And I'm going to do my best to stop by the fairgrounds this weekend. Kids have track meets and...
This might be a stupid question with an obvious answer, but humor me... When you use the thermometer (like the EC-732), do the wires just get fed out through the door? Like between the the frame of the smoker and the door seal???
Did you drill into your smoker to insert these? If so, what size bit did you use??? If not, where did you put them? Sorry if this is a stupid question with an obvious answer:)
