Carbon,
That is an elegant solution. Very nice. I hope you have many easy smokes.
I checked the Home Depot and Lowes stores and could not find that Flag Pole base I used on my smoker as an exhaust. No longer around apparently. I was nosing around the Ugly Barrel Smokers and was amazed...
The third photo down of the red & black barrel smoker you will see that the smoker is turned upside down. There is a large air leak that is obvious to the eye. Fixing that leak was a real challenge even with the tape stove gasket installed. Spent hours bending the red fire pan into some kind...

Somehow I misplaced the photo destination. Try the above link to see the photos of my ECB vertical barrel smoker.
In the top photo you can see where I drilled some extra holes for more air volume. Later I learned that was not necessary because with the smoker cruising at 220 the vents were almost completely closed. No extra holes were needed after all.
I am letting this smoke go at a neighborhood garage...
Hello Branson,
Yes, I think I have photos of that smoker. Question for me is, how do I upload the pics to this thread. I have not a clue, but I will try. So, give me some time and I will see if I can do it.

I went a slightly different route and bought a ECB version without the grill as firebox. Then I ordered the ECB charcoal grill that normally comes with the Gourmet version of the ECB from Amazon. That way I got handles and the smoker legs and I did not have to build them as the fellow did in...
I agree with BobH127. You can have any size pile of charcoal and it should not affect temperature much. I cut my teeth learning to plug air leaks on an ECB barrel smoker. Once I had modified the firebox the smoker ran up over 450 degrees on the first try...with no water. But I had air leaks...
Don't be too disappointed. After my experience with a Brinkmann vertical or barrel smoker, the first time I fired it up it ran real hot. I found that I had air leaks around the access door on the side of the barrel and I spent some time bending it to fit tighter. Next, there were air leaks...
I just bought a Brinkmann cabinet smoker...and I bought a grill wok from Lowes to make into a fire pan just like the fellow above has done. But the tough job I see a head for me are making the two doors air tight. It looks like I will have to remove the hinges to the doors and replace them...
I just bought a Brinkmann vertical cabinet two door smoker from Wally World. This is my second smoker that I will have to modify to work well for long slow smokes. I just bought a square bbq wok made by Master Forge #0025375 at Lowes for about $10 that nearly fits in the side rails of the...
