Hi, What kind of pellets are you using there BigBountyBBQ? Your results would have me questioning my pellet quality. There are pellets out there that are not food quality... not hardwood.
One reason to not soak your wood is you have to cook off all the steam before the wood can start smoking. So it will last longer but you don't get the smoke we are all looking for.

Yes I get most of my meat at Sams. I have a Tragger Pellet Smoker, Texan. Really trying to use it properly. I believe that it smokes better than I cook.
