Does my drum have the dreaded liner?

Well, I have been known to start huge fires unintentionally while grilling so I'll see what I can pull off in my drum. Thanks again for the tips everyone.

Does my drum have the dreaded liner?

Thanks for the confirmation Dave. I was really hoping it wasn't lined, but that's fine. A little extra elbow grease never hurt anyone.

Does my drum have the dreaded liner?

MossyMO & Fire it up, A burn out is definitely a given. I'm just waiting for my brother-in-law to drill the intake holes, but he's been working out of state the past few weeks. I'd love to build the UDS myself, but I don't want to risk it. I'm not exactly a handy kind of guy. Thanks for the...

Does my drum have the dreaded liner?

Hey fellas, I took your advice and scratched the inside of the drum with a nail and it looks like it’s just bare metal. All I could scrape off were some metal shavings. No paint or flakes. Is it normal for the inside of a barrel to have a brownish color?

Does my drum have the dreaded liner?

I know this may sound like a goofy question, but how do you know if a drum has a liner? I've included a pic of the inside as well as the inner lid.

Installing a turkey fryer thermometer on a UDS?

Thanks for the tips guys. I've never factored in removing the charcoal basket with a 12" thermometer installed so thanks for the heads up. Just goes to show I'm not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree.

Installing a turkey fryer thermometer on a UDS?

I've noticed that the Spicewine thermometer seems to be the pick of choice for quite a few UDS builders, but I came across this turkey fryer thermo and was wondering if it would do the job as well? http://www.hawgeyesbbq.com/cajtherlg.JPG It peaked my interest because of the 12 inch stem...

My first drum cook w/ Qview

Thanks for posting pics of your first UDS cook Cigarbcue. Everything looks amazing. BTW, I really like the idea of using U-bolts for the cooking grate. What size did you go with?

    Picked Up My Drums Today!!!

Good luck with your build! I'm planning on starting my first UDS here shortly and I can't wait. A man can only tolerate Famous Dave's and Smokey Bones so many times.

    Basic UDS specs?

DDave and RickW, thank you for all of the information. I probably wouldn't even be attempting a UDS if it wasn't for the advice and help from members like you. I hope to start the build this weekend. I might even post some pics along the way if my mind remembers to remind me. Iâ€8482m on...

    Basic UDS specs?

Dave, that's exactly the kind of quick write up I was looking for. I really appreciate it. I have just a few more quick questions if you don't mind. The lid to my drum already has 3 holes with caps that I can simply unscrew for the exhaust. I guess what I'm asking is do most UDS owners prefer...

    Basic UDS specs?

I've skimmed over the amazing pic tutorial Norcoredneck did at the BBQ Brethern forum, but I'm still just looking for basic universal measurements and whatnot. You know, just a simple list of where to drill this or where to drill that. Also, I've noticed that some people have 4 intakes on the...

    Howdy from Orange, VA!

How's it going everybody? I found this site a few weeks ago while running a google search for ugly drum smokers and I've just got to say the amount of information here is incredible. The name is Brian BTW and I've done some smoking on and off through the years, but usually only on cheap...
