Afternoon Friend!
I haven't built a traditional offset, but have built a reverse flow. My understanding is, the dimensions for each is about the same. Here's a handy online calculator that I've used a time or two:

Ha! :emoji_laughing: Good luck with those Cortney! I didn't appreciate how many man-hours would go into building these bar grates by hand. I suppose a guy with all the right machining tools could have done it faster and easier - but I don't have any of that!
Much appreciated Jerry!

It occurred to me that I haven't posted an update in over 2 weeks. That's mostly because I wasn't in the shop much until this week - some grandad responsibilities and a stretch of cold weather kept me out. But here's what I've accomplished since the last update.
So I think I mentioned that I...
Thank you Sir!
I guess I haven't decided for sure, Keith...but I think not. Only things that need seasoned will be the grates - everything else will be painted. I can heat-season the grates with my torch. That'll make Jim the first guy to light a real fire in this sucker!

Afternoon Friends! Time for an update! That brutal winter storm made it impossible (for me at least) to work in the shop - but our weather has returned to very mild the last few days, so I got some work done.
So after I posted the last update, working on the cooking grate, Jim asked if I...
The kind remarks are much appreciated Keith!
Now, keep in mind - I've personally never used a burn box, but my thoughts are a guy could do it either way if the mood struck him. However, I think you've got the idea - seems to me the efficient way to do it is to built a nice hot coal bed in the...
Quick update - I've gotten a bit more done this week on Jim's grill.
It was time to mount the cooking grate truss. So far, I just have this tacked in place. Don't want to weld any of this stuff solid until I get the grate fabricated and see how everything fits and works...just in case I have...
Thanks Matt! Being an old retired guy, I have plenty of time for thinkin things through lol! In fact, I'd say it's my main pastime! :emoji_wink::emoji_laughing:

Thanks Cortney! I never get tired of looking at your cooker! Appreciate the suggestions and the pics. We've agreed to go with a round bar grate. It's gonna be 1/2" round stock - probably with half-inch spacer between each...but that will depend on what it looks like when I get it laid out.

Good morning, SMF Friends, and Happy Weekend!
Headed out in a bit to spend some grandkids time, but wanted to post an update of what progress I got made this week.
So after finishing the brasero, I moved to building a side table for the other end of the grill.
Next, I fabricated a...
First off Disco, that steak looks terrific! One of my favorite ways to cook a steak for sure! That plate is a beautiful thing, Sir...nicely done!
A big Slainte to you and your lady on your approaching wedding! I don't remember where I heard this toast, but I hope it applies:
May the best of...
