    Using Oak stump grind

If you have access to a chainsaw and there is still enough of the trunk left, you might consider cutting off 1-2" thick wafers. Let them cure and then take a hatchet to them. That will give you some really nice chunks.

    Anybody like pecan wood?

I know I'm a little late to this tread, so I would like to suggest something for those looking for pecan shells to smoke with. We used bags & bags of pecan shells at the power plant I retired from. They were used for the purpose of sending them through the turbine blades to clean them for...

    Using Oak stump grind

I fear you will have an awful lot of sand or gravel in the mix.

    Hello out there!

Welcome to the forums, J. Lots of good information to be found here, I'm a rookie myself, but I'm enjoying learning what the extremely talented vets freely have to offer here. BTW, I'm married into the Galloway Clan, originally from the West Florida Panhandle. Good peoples! Two of my wifes...

    How Many Mes Owners Here?

DOMAPOI, I have a chimney installed in the exhaust port on my smoker. Like electricity, I take the path of least resistance. So I didn't feel like removing the chimney. My hope is to truly have a "Set it & Forget it" MES 30" Smoker. I've only had it a week and knew going into it that these...

    How Many Mes Owners Here?

lol Hey C, I have no earthly idea how to do that! It's probably time I learn though. wife has a couple of digital cameras laying around somewhere I care nothing about learning how to use. I hate cell phones with a passion! I only carry them for work and my convenience. The Butt turned out great...

    How Many Mes Owners Here?

This is my first serious smoke on the MES 30. I did smoke some sausage and dogs last weekend after the Disney trip. They were GREAT! Life is so good right now! Had the four grand babies over this afternoon, with my oldest 7 year old staying with grandaddy tonight. She has been all about this new...

    How Many Mes Owners Here?

Picked mine up at Home Depot. Gen 1 model 30. Just completed seasoning tonight, haven't cooked on it yet, but I think I'm gonna love it. I read a lot about the problem Masterbuilt is having with the new model and some with the model I have. If breaks, if Masterbuilt won't fix it I will.

    MES 30" electric model#

geerock, first, I can't imagine loosing a child. I'm truly sorry for your lose. Doesn't matter how old they are, they are still our babies. My youngest is 30, he was a stem winder for about twelve years. All he knew was Z71 pickups and all nighters in the boonies, nothing really major, he just...

    MES 30" electric model#

CFarmer, thanks for the reinforcement. No pleasure of mine will come before my family. Especially, my grandbabies. Priorities set! Life has been good to me, but I couldn't have imagined how good until my four grandbabies came along. I believe my children would tell you, I've been a good daddy...

    MES 30" electric model#

geerock, thanks for your patient advice. It seems as though I overwhelmed myself with information about these units, causing confusion on my behalf. I will do the exhaust stack mod for more pull through the box. I have so much to learn about this smoker. Next step is to break it in, then I will...

    MES 30" electric model#

Geerock, mine is not the new model, it's 2011 model. Mine exhaust out the top right. I'm just thinking that if flow is better out the left as yours does, I'll block the existing exhaust and punch a hole where yours is.

    MES 30" electric model#

Got ya. Before I go any further in this line of questioning, is there a specific Mod thread for the MES? I would like to read more on placement and hole size of exhaust before I take the Greenlee to it. It seems that with so many people here having trouble with their units there would be plenty...

    MES 30" electric model#

Does the relocation of the exhaust vent to the left side on Gen 2 model improve the functionality of the smoker? Also, the new 3" vent  with the damper, is that available at Home depot or Lowes and is that something I should consider ? I ain't skeerd of a mod if it's a worthwhile improvement.

    MES 30" electric model#

Geerock, what model PID is that? I just picked up my MES 30 tonight, it's a 2011 year model. Haven't taken it out of the box yet. I ask because I like to be prepared just in case something goes haywire with the original controls, I'll know what to order. Once I get this thing set up and seasoned...

    Just an introduction

Hello all, Thought I would introduce myself. I'm an Ole Northeast Florida Boy (Cracker). I found this site researching E-smokers. Friends recommended I purchase a Masterbuilt E- smoker, they both have the Gen 1 models and very pleased with them.I've already contributed to the Masterbuilt 2012 30...
