I did use a calculator and the stack sizes are just a little bigger than 5% of the firebox volume. I'm not so sure about the the part that is above the cook chamber being the only part that matters. My thinking is as long as the the stack isn't below the firebox the smoke and heat will still...

Well I was able to work on the smokers over the thanksgiving break. I got one door completely sealed and a handle put on. I also got the firebox opening cut into the tank as well as the plate steel welded on for the firebox door. I will post some pictures soon when I get a chance to take some.

    1,000 Gallon Smoker

That looks awesome. Did you have any problems with your doors warping when you cut the firebox opening? Mine warped a little when I was welding on the hinges even though I left the corners intact. I just wondered if something else could warp while I was doing the fire box.

That is a good idea. I just don't have all extra money for steel plate. I have seen some of your smokers that you have built. They look awesome.

Wow you may as well buy new steel at that price. The yard I go to is .35/lb if they let me walk through and get random pieces. I got my steel for the trailer from a steel yard and they gave me a discount the more I bought.

Mine were free. But I did call around before I came across these and I was told $50-$60 for 500 gallon tanks. When you call make sure you say you want decommissioned tanks. They shouldn't charge more than they would get for scrap. A 500 gal is about 900 lb so scrap where I am is around $.06/ lb...

I haven't had a chance to work on the smokers lately. I have been busy with some projects around the house. I wasn't thinking about my calculations from Feldon's calculator I came up with a volume for my chimney of 2102.84 cu.in. I plan on using two 6" square pieces of tubing 36" long for my...
