If you size the firebox right it shouldn't be an issue. Google Felton central calculator. There you can input what you have and it will tell you what size firebox is needed and what size stack is needed. You may get a 10-15 degree fluctuation but you can use tuning plates to help with that.

I live in NC and I have seen cookers like this all over the place (they are usually laying horizontal). Fire boxes on these I'm sure are few and far between but I have seen some with fire boxes. That being said I would think you could just attach a fire box to the same place where the coals...
Thanks. That is one big smoker for sure. Are you starting a business or just wanted a big smoker? Me I just wanted a big smoker haha. And doing a few wedding and fundraisers would be fun too.
I discarded the calculations after seeing your smoker build and the all post regarding the firebox size. I live in North Carolina so that might be a little bit of drive to get the 10" from you haha.
My plan is to have a trailer setup like franklins with the double 500s I already have the other...
Yes I do. I have a pretty big shed that I am going to build the trailer in but I didn't have any lights in the shed when I started the smoker. Plus with the cool weather we have been having I'm glad I was outside in the sun. My neighbors probably think I'm crazy but once they try the BBQ it will...
It is what I had. They are 6" Square tube from a light pole. I originally made the stacks that short because the volume is what was recommended from the feldon calculator. If that makes sense. I am going for the Franklin method plus the longer stacks do look nicer haha.
I was able to start a fire in the firebox over the holiday break. I still have to weld the firebox door on and @Ahumadora I will be extending the stacks the smoker seemed to draft better and there will be less smoke in the eyes. You can see my quick fix to see what the difference between stack...
Thanks for the chain and bottle jack idea @Ahumadora. My door is now a pretty good fit. If I need to I can always work on it some more if I see a lot of smoke escaping.
I used the clamps to hold the door while I welded the straps on the doors. I was hoping the heat from welding would bring the door back to its shape. That didn't work. I'll be using chains next.
I have made some progress on the smoker. The firebox is connected to the cook chamber but not fully welded. I have built the frame for the racks but I haven't attached the expanded metal yet. I have been trying to work on fixing a sprung door and that has been taking a lot of my time.
