I went with the crockpot for the reheat. Added beef broth during the process. Everyone loved it, but it wasn't as tendor as it should've been. It had a nice smoke taste. I probably wouldn't use the Montreal steak seasoning for the rub again.
I'll need to keep experimenting with the reheat...
well, it went pretty well over night and into the morning. The cold Michigan night really took a toll on my fuel. Had to add some around 7am. Looked pretty good when I finally pulled it. Couldn't sample it, however, due to Friday during Lent. Tomorrow's the big family gathering. I need to...
I have my wood chunks in paper leaf bags. I have thought about moving some of it to plastic totes, but haven't done it.
I have a couple leaf bags full of oak, cherry, red apple and yellow apple. Probably a little too much for my use. Not sure how many years I can keep the wood dry, clean...
I recently acquired some quail and will throw them on the WSM 22.5" at some point this fall. I also have some pheasant.
The question I am trying to answer is, "Can I smoke both at the same time?"
thanks for the response I was very clear to the homeowners that I only wanted wood that i could split. That I wouldn't do complete cleanup. I made sure they understood that they would need to deal with the limbs/twigs/small stuff. Each of the homeowners told me they were going to have someone...
Well, since I created this thread, I had two local homeowners offer me apple wood from their personal tree. A red apple tree and a golden delicious tree.
I cut down the two overgrown apple trees and took the wood that I could split. A lot of splitting over the last couple weeks.
Today I was...
I ended up cutting down an overgrown apple tree in someone's back yard locally. Originally, they asked me to cut down both of their huge apple trees, but then decided that just one should come down. No worries, it was enough wood.
I was actually surprised how much "large" chunks I was able to...
thank you for the reply. I guess I was viewing it as orchards spray and some home owners don't. I understand your point if a homeowner is treated his tree and possibly over-doing it.
I will always worry about poison ivy. If I look at it the wrong way, I'll get it.
So you keep your smoking wood in firewood length, right? I've been cutting mine into chunks. So I have been viewing this as crates, tubs, wire mesh, etc.
Thanks for the feedback.
I have a local apple orchard who said I could come out and cut some wood from trees that were taken down this year. Here's my question:
What about all of the pesticides/chemicals that have been sprayed on the trees? Is that a concern?
I also have access to a local property where they want a...
Thanks for the comments Copsaw.
I am getting a new shed delivered in a couple weeks. I could keep my wood chunks in totes in the shed, I guess. Either that or the garage.
How long do you keep wood? A year or two? Longer?
