I would presmoke and take them to the beach. That way, you can join in the festivities and not have to worry about an errant football upsetting your smoker.
I usewd to, but without a basement it is hard to find a place cool enough to brew in the Summer that stays below 70F. Yes, I tried a dedicated closet, Son of fermentation chiller, etc, etc.
Sounds like you might be having a draft issue. No flow through your smoke house Do you have a vent on top or near the top? Is it wide open?
Just a couple of thoughts. A picture or two of your smokehouse would be a big help.
