I made a major step forward yesterday and got the smoker moved into it permanent home yesterday. It was no easy task but well worth it to have a smoker I can use anytime in any weather and not worry about it effecting how well the smoker works. I had a chimney from my mother in law house that...
I added the springs on the outside because I wanted the doors to "hold" open without having to go all the way to the stops on the springs on the inside. If I had known when I started what I know now I would not have cut my doors all the way at the top like I did and this would not be an issue. I...
Well I did not take many pictures I did not want to open the smoker unless I absolutely had to. The 55lbs of pork butt and 40lbs of brisket turned out great! It held temp great and nothing but thin blue smoke. I used just cherry the whole time and the brisket loved it! I got nothing but...
We will be eating all afternoon! I have about 60lbs of pork butt and 50lbs of brisket!!
and a huge batch of wicked baked beans!
I am firing the smoker up in about an hour!
Well I gave the smoker a job today and boy did it do a good job! I got home from work and fired it up and tossed a couple ribs the wife had in the freezer in. It looked a little ridiculous I should have had 20 times more meat in there but it was a good test run. Cherry is my new favorite wood...
I still have fine tuning to do. The door closest to the firebox leaks a tiny bit. Just until the draft started and it pulled out the stack. I don't want to clamp them so I will use a seam sealer on it. I also found a couple pinholes in my welds I need to fix.
It's alive!!!!!!
I got the temp gauges mounted and the firebox door seal Installed and coated the inside with vegetable oil. Then I got a chimney of charcoal going and tossed it in the firebox and added some cherry splits and away she went!
With just a few splits I got 200° out of it so I added...
Well it's ready for an oil bath inside and some heat! The paint is not as good as I wanted and another coat will be happening soon but I need to get this thing fired up if I am going to cook on it this weekend.
Well the Steaks part of from start to steaks should be in a few more days! I got the firebox door latch all done last night and not I just have to weld on the bungs for the temp gauges and it will be ready to paint!
Thanks for all the good info!!! I didn't even think about U tube. It's funny because my wife wanted to know the best way to prune her dahlia's and I said check out u tube.
Thanks for the info! Everything I found from them was brush on only. When I read the details looking at them on Amazon it said specially do not used in a spray application. I did not want to ruin a expensive spray gun doing this. They even have a picture of a paint brush on the can to let you...
I did a couple test areas with some rattle can paint to see how it would look. I am going to primer first but wanted to check it out. I have searched all over for a high heat paint that I can shoot thru my paint gun but with no luck. Anything that will work requires a licence to obtain or has to...
For some reason tapatalk is angry and every time I try to go to any of the forums it just says No topics ?????? I cant use it to read or post anything. The regular web site on my phone does not play well and as you can see from my last post it doesn't come out well either.
I got a ton of work done yesterday. The reverse flow plates are welded the drain is done.the smoker is standing on its own on the base and the stack is finished.the front for the ash tray drawer is done and pulls for the food racks are done.
