If it isn't an issue, why does it always come up? :emoji_wink:
My food never suffered, but it bothered my OCD brain. I just got a Rec Tec Stampede and wow, this is an amazing grill in the price range. Don't knock accuracy until you've tried it.
I bought a Traeger pro 22 a year and a half ago. It worked very well for what it is. I added a Savannah Stoker controller trying improve accuracy. The SS did, but it still had issues. Maybe it was my grill, I don't know. So I sold all of that and now have a Rec Tec Rt-590 Stampede. Wow, what a...
Thanks, ordered this morning.
It's been less than a day, and I'm already missing my pellet grill. I really can't wait to get the Stampede cooking.
30% off accessories right now at Rec Tec.
My year just got more interesting. Long story short...sold my traeger/ Savannah setup today. Ordering a rec tec rt-590 tomorrow. It is what it is, looking forward to turning a new leaf.
This is exactly what I was wondering. What were the baseline parameters they tested? If six 10lb butts fit on it, you better test it with seven crammed in there, because lord knows one of us is gonna do it. Blows my mind how bad this has been for Weber.
Before long, Weber will wish they had gone gravity charcoal like the Masterbuilt.
I still have hope they can straighten it out.
I'm a year away from upsizing pellet grills. I would love to have Weber in discussion, but I'm still leaning Rec Tec. Unless I can talk the wife into a Yoder.
I have the 5lb LEM, you won't regret the extra few bucks. Spread that out over a decade, compared to paying the processor or borrowing your buddies a dozen times. No brainer man, sausage is fun.
Before spending Yoder or Mac type money, you gotta be happy with pellet grilled food. It's all gonna taste about the same, but come at a cost that's thousands of dollars different.
+1 on the Savannah if you're set on keeping the grill. I have one on mine and it's +/- 7 degrees.
It takes some tuning seasonally to keep it dead on, but once you get your head around the parameters it's pretty easy. I only say this because some Savannah users claim "drop in and go be awesome"...
Instead of trying to make your pellet grill something it isn't, I would pick up a Weber kettle and a Slow n Sear charcoal basket for it too. Take the time to learn that setup, and you can easily get any amount of smoke flavor your looking for. It's not "set and forget", but with practice gets...
I dump and run as well. I buy my Lumber Jack locally, so I can pick the bags that look the least beat up. If the bottom of the bag get crumby, I through out the last hand full. My Traeger has fed them all though.
If its chunky, I'll use in the chimney on the next cook. If it's pretty small, I will usually put new lit coals on top.
I find that too much fine stuff in the chimney settles in too tight and seems to choke the drafting process out. Might just be me being impatient. LOL
