At the end of the day, with practice and attention to the process, a $400 grill will basically make the same food a $3000 one does. It won't be as heavy duty, have wifi with graphs, or have +/-2 degree accuracy. The maintenance and care to make any of these grills run at their best is all similar.
I've been cooking on a Rec Tec 590 a few months now. It's been a very nice grill.
I was "saving up" for a Yoder 640, but at the end of the day I couldn't justify the cost of it. It would have been double the cost of my Rec Tec. I get the thick steel and american made thing, but for me it's a...
I'm a hickory or pEcan sort of guy.
Been into Lumber Jack brand for a while for overall value.
I may get a small package of Cooking Pellets next time if I can find a discount code.
That reminds me of that traeger commercial last year where the gas griller was saying "smells like gas" and "tastes like gas" but it kept sounding like he was saying ass. It was actually hilarious. Then I sold the traeger and got a Rec Tec....oops.
I had a Savannah on a traeger. It worked really well, but at times was very frustrating.
All the adjustments it allows to get dialed in, which are great, sort of baited my OCD brain into always tuning. Seasonally, the setup will change, that's to be expected to a varying degree. I personally...
I am really digging the bullseye now that it's gonna have the PID. My Weber gasser is getting pretty rusty, I am really considering swapping it out for a bullseye.
+1 for the 590. Mine has been awesome. I added a door seal, I would recommend adding one before you get it all gunked up. It seals the door and makes it feel sexier since its no longer metal on metal. I would add to any grill actually. I use the .500 wide fireblack on amazon.
I have a 590.
Heat distribution is similar to my previous Traeger 22 grill. The 590 is a bit more even, but like the traeger, I find the right rear hottest by 15 degrees. I think it's more about the drip tray/heat diffusion plate design than the exhaust. I'm no grill expert, just observing my...
What traeger do you have?
Fluctuations of +/- 20 degrees will be pretty standard on a non-PID grill.
My traeger would run +/- 20 with an occasional 35 degree swing.
Always made great food though.
I use a traeger bucket on my 590. It's a little smaller, but it fits the foil liners correctly.
Before I get roasted, I did get some Rec Tec stickers to cover the traeger embossing.:emoji_wink:
I always though the horns were a little dumb too. Now that I have one, I find them very comfortable to use. I don't really see them as horns any more. For the money, a Rec Tec is the best mid price grill you're gonna get. To spend another $1500 for a handle and virtually identical food, well...
I used to have a Savannah Stoker on my Traeger. It was a nice controller, but I could never get my grill to run the advertised +/-5 degrees. All the adjustability meant was I was constantly messing with parameters looking for more stability. I ended up giving the controller to my neighbor, sold...
