I have the Auber Sly 2342 that can handle up to 1200 watts with built in 10 amp relay. It has worked fine for the several years I have used it in mt Bradley digital with 2 500 watt elements. AGK
The GFI trips because there is some current leakage from line leg of circuit to 3rd wire ground. GFI circuits are made to trip if there is as little as 5mili amps (0.005 amps) going to ground. It is very difficult to detect that small a current with most multi meters. As a temporary fix to...
Smokencure,
I have had a Bradley Digital for about 3 years & like the unit. It does require some learning curve though. To start with the temp controller sensor is located on back wall about halfway up very close to rear wall. Controller turns off at set temp( say 220f) when temp reaches 220...
I used a miter saw to make sawdust that I made my bisquettes out of. Used some dry wood & some green wood. Green wood works better to make sawdust & also sawdust dries much faster than chunks when spread out and stirred once in a while. Have made more than 200 so far & have enough sawdust to...
As a short term fix to finish a smoke, you can use a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter on power cord that will prevent GFI from tripping. GFI trips because some current is leaking to 3rd wire ground causing an imbalance between line & load legs of the circuit.

I should have added in my post that I used room temp water that worked, but think hot water would give you a head start on drying. Lost notes I made but think it was less than half as much water as pellets. 4 cups pellets made about 12 cups wet dust. Keep as dry as possible for shorter drying...
You also can make dust from pellets by adding some hot water to them, then stir them up. Down side though is you will need to dry dust then in an oven or in the sun on a dry day.

Thanks for the replies. I have an electric Bradley for one of the smokers that should be low risk, BUT less than 50 feet away is a wildlife area with a lot of tall dry grass. Don't want a gust of wind to cause a problem.

Just curious what others do during high or extreme fire danger. I live in Wisconsin where we had very little snow last winter & little rain this spring. All the state is in very high or extreme fire danger with very low humidity. We are not the only states with these conditions. I really don't...
The bark on soft maple is smoother than on hard maple, but it is hard to tell from picture as bark on both are smooth when small & get rougher on hard as tree gets bigger. When leaves come out, they are close but not identical.
Both should be good for syrup but the higher the sugar content...
In my younger days have tapped & cooked maple sap into syrup. Sugar (aka hard) maple has the highest sugar content of all maples. Knew a fellow who didn't know tree species well & tapped elm. The end product was not useable. It helps to find out what trees variety you have.

jted, My problem was fixed when I cleaned the grease buildup around the mounting bracket, & I did check for other current leaks with only element disconnected. None found & has worked fine since. Those GFI units are a good thing for user safety but can be frustrating when they detect a problem...
DP4126,
I don't have a Masterbuilt, but have a Bradley that tripped the GFI after it got hot. Got by finishing that smoke when I used a 3 to 2 wire adapter. Don't recommend you use this as a long term fix though. On mine I found that there was just enough grease buildup on the mounting...

Reading this post I remembered that when ordering my ET-732, ordered a spare meat probe that I never used, but was curious what receiver would read with 2 meat probes instead of 1 of each. So the following test to see. When turned on with 1 of each BBQ temp...
I was told they sell the cherry pits for pellet stoves to heat buildings & they burn hotter than pellets. Any smoke goes out the chimney on such applications & does not come in contact with any food.

Cherry wood is fine for smoking meat etc. BUT cherry pits can be toxic if enough are swallowed. I purchased a 40# bag for $5.00 locally and tried a small amount mixed with sawdust in some homemade pucks for my Bradley. Think you would have to use a lot of pits to be a problem & also think its...
Try using a magnet on it. If stainless there will be only a slight magnetic attraction on type 316 & none or nearly none on type 304. I found this out from a welding instructor so take it for what its worth.
