My next move is to source a somewhat rare 5lb (new ones are 60 bucks) propane tank for it. Then I can fab up a little rack for the bottle inbetween the two wheels hanging off the end.
It's amazing those 5 pound tanks are twice as expensive as a brand new 5gal 20 pound standard tank.
Then I...
Thanks guys.
I think she is just really jealous of the smoker. It has consumed a ton of my time since I started fabricating the thing about a month ago.
and my newly built smoker. lol then after complaining she sucks it all down like a vacuum cleaner.
Today was my first run on an all propane smoke. Talk about lazy. Set it and forget. Just add some wood chunks every once in a while.
If I take any more days off I am gonna weigh 400 pounds for...
Well, she is definitely not new anymore.
Pork butt at about the 5.5 hour mark.
Looking good. It's a fairly small shoulder so she is getting ready to be taken to pulling temperature.
Hath,
You need to download the excel spreadsheet calculator. You can input your numbers and it will tell you how big to make that opening. Yes the size matters.
I found it in one of the stickies in here.
Thanks rob
I am still pondering the possibility of buying a propane burner tube for a weber go anywhere grill (9 bucks) and regulator from the same (12 bucks) and putting it in the firebox. It would be used for charcoal lighting and an auxiliary heat source should the need arise.
Thanks Caveman
Finally finished the portable mini reverse flow smoker today.
I have about 40 hours too many into the damn thing.
Tomorrow is it's true maiden voyage. Gonna do up a pork shoulder and make pulled pork for the first time.
Duck, you ain't ****tin about the paint removal on this damn air tank.
I was figuring that I would burn it off on the test burns. Well that half worked. I have tried sanding, grinding, and wirewheeling. I have resorted to burning it off with my O/A torch and finishing it with a scotchbrite...
Thanks guys for your opinions.
This does in fact make life easier really.
Hogfan, I was shocked at how much drippings there were in the pan after smoking two chickens at the same time in the thing.
The drain system will be quite handy.
Is this really a good idea? or is it one of those personal preference things?
I borrowed a design from smokemifugotem utilizing my reverse flow plate as a water pan. Holds right around 2 gallons.
Some things I have noticed, once the smoker is up to temp a gallon of water will steam off...
Couldn't resist lol, we did up a pair of yard birds with pecan wood to get the seasoning process started on the smoker.
Couldn't be happier so far. Just need to get a little more familiar with the processes of lump charcoal. Usually would use briquettes in my SnP.
Mom is in town from Arizona...
She is about 90 percent done. I need to get her ready for paint after a few more heat cycles.
She rolls really smooth and is easy to move with the handle and wheels. Re did the handle so it doubles as the firebox basket holder for reloading. I also put my matching handle on the firebox door...

I have 4 briskets, 2 bacon explosions, 8 beer can chickens/smoked chickens, and about 8 racks of smoked loin backs to may name in the last 5 years.
Been charcoal grilling pretty much all my life.
Now that I have a purpose built smoker to play with instead of the SnP I will be getting a...
