Something like this... This is at http://www.summitracing.com/parts/prf-30112/overview/. It cost $67 and some change. These are used to control the aftermarket electric fan many hot rodders use to save space in the engine compartment and free up horse power. The probe you see at the top of...

I wonder if you could get a universal adjustable thermostat and wire it in. Such as one used on vehicles that have electric fans?

First Big Smoker Build. Advice welcomed!

Morning, you are right! I am definately going to add fans and "gimmicks" as a last resort. After looking at the available options, if I decide to go with some sort of fan system, it would probably be just as cheap to go with a BBQ Guru setup. These are from $130 and up. Some kits come with the...

    New build, need guidance

In my opinion, I wouldn't make that many racks... I don't know of anything that you will be smoking that is only 1/2" thick. Even ribs are at least 1" thick. I would suggest making half or one quarter as many racks. Still put the racking in the smoker so you can adjust shelf spacing according to...

Good idea. It would probably be best to get it functional, then add a fan according to what is needed.

What if this was put on the exhaust... would it create draft correctly and being heat through or would it just suck out all the hot air? This is an inline duct fan.

Sounds good. Now the next question is how man CFM's would it take to move heat through the CC without blowing it all out too fast?

This sounds good. Do you know what kind of voltage these wood boiler furnace fans use? I am not wanting a generator so I want to be able to use a car battery. I like the plastic barrel idea, but will this fit within competition specs?

Yes, I appreciate all the ensight. I have never competed with BBQ so I don't have the slightest idea of what to expect, thus I don't have the slightest idea of some things that would be useful in competition.

I have a question concerning exhaust. I wonder how well metal building downspout would hold up as exhaust for the smoker? I could get it to be any size, I assume. I would want 7". This is of course square. The advantage over .125 square tube is this would be much lighter, but would it rust out...

    Powder Coating a Smoker

Yes, I checked a calculator to see how many lbs of powder I would need and it calledfor 11 lbs for the tank. I have seen the equipment for 100-$200... and I was thinking about doing it in the garage, but burning the smoker in closed quarters basically in the house may not turn out good. But it...
