    What group should I use?

I think Dave meant, what State are you in, it will make a difference, when it comes to insulation, heat source, etc etc depending on how cold it gets in your area. I'm building a wood smoke house, a tad smaller, but taller than your dimensions, hoping to have it fired up this coming weekend if...

    5Oaks Smoker Build

Doesn't look like a lot, but got the upper vents in, 9 3/4" holes, used a cork on twine to plug em, twine is so we don't lose em, was my wife's idea, so since she showed some interest, we are gonna try it out lol. Also got some hardware on and a backing strip to help seal the sides of the...

    5Oaks Smoker Build

Got my CC doors on, still have to finish sealing them, but they are on and working even with the humidity today. Have to finish the roof and FB door and place shelving, then it's down to the trim and extras.

    Have a Q

Most of the custom smokers I have seen on here seem to do well with the 1000w or 1500w 110v burners. My Big Chief has just a lil 450w burner and it will get up to around 170-200 degrees depending on how much meat I put in it, and the outside temps. I would check for ways to either insulate, or...

    Have a Q

Most cook stoves run on 220v, putting a coil from there in a 110v burner would probably end up with half the coil rating for the cook stove. With that in mind, a 2000w element from a cook stove will put out less heat in your housing than your 1100w element that is made to run off the 110v.

    Have a Q

Most if not all Off-the-shelf electric burners have an automatic thermal cutoff to shut down the burner if the housing is exposed to temperatures above its operating range, this is to prevent fires, you might check that out first, maybe your heat chamber is getting hotter than the burner allows...

    Smoker Help

http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/160583/120-gallon-reverse-smoker-build This thread is from the reverse flow forum, but the concept is the same, Dave talks about adding inlet vents and raising the grate to 5". He also has a cool graphic to illustrate what he's talking about. Fire has to...

    Smoker Help

Its definitely an airflow issue, I have seen posts where they recommend to raise the grate, so that there is more room for air flow under the fire, also maybe try a smaller amount of wood, you have you box crammed full, that will create a lot of ash at once and also block flow, not to mention...

    Smoker Help

What kind of smoker? I have a Brinkmann charcoal smoker, and it would do that, because it used a solid metal bowl for the charcoal to sit in, I went to WalMart and got what they call a Grill Wok(Recommended somewhere on this site as a solution) and then put the bowl on the bottom to catch ash...

    Smoker Window

Ok, I have a question for you welders out there. Is the clear lense for a welding mask tempered? I was thinking that it would be the perfect size for a window into the smoker, they are like 1 1/2" by 4" or 5" just from memory, and I know they have clear as well as tinted lenses. Hoping they...

    5Oaks Smoker Build

Had some help tonight cutting the big sheets, wife came out, I think she's getting anxious for some ribs hehe. Got the rest of the inner panels in place, sealed all the seams and got the insulation cut and in place on all of the sides. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have not only my wife but my boy...

    5Oaks Smoker Build

Didn't get as much done as I had hoped last night, but got half the inner walls on, added some extra bracing, and sealed a bunch of the seams. I was thinking of putting 4 - 1" holes on each side of the top of the smoker, and 10 - 1" holes in the door to the firebox, even with screens that...

My new smokehouse...almost complete..need some advice on venting

I'm not an expert by any means, but couldn't you install a range hood in the back corner of the smoke shack, and use the same wall kit like you would for a house, that would allow for a vent when you wanted it, and you could run the controls to the partition wall with lighted switches to turn...
