    5Oaks Smoker Build

Setback #2... well, I got a bit over anxious.. I have been using that grill wok for a charcoal basket, and it worked well, but Fathers Day Morning we were loading up 8 Racks of Ribs, and we had made an aluminum box to sit on top of the basket, in theory it was supposed to help keep the flame...

Question about airflow for a converted food warming cabinet.

I can't help a ton, but I have seen guys set them up both ways, with the hose and with black pipe. If you are concerned about the hose, black piping isn't too expensive, since it would be short pieces. Hope that helps some.

    5Oaks Smoker Build

Ok, so today, I caulked in some of the seams that I noticed were leaking smoke during the turkey smoke. I also, put another piece of durock on the inside of the FB, where I noticed the wood taking a bit too much heat. I replaced the FB door, with one that has a piece of durock on the inside...

MYPIN PID help, need switch signal to be 110V

The drawing can be used for any setup, it was a quick sketch on my pad here at the desk. I would put 2 inline fuses on the black lines though, a 2a fuse going to the PID and a 20a fuse going to the SSR. Just to save having to buy parts if there is ever a problem, fuses are cheap, you can use...

MYPIN PID help, need switch signal to be 110V

Basically the PID is just a thermostat not unlike that for your furnace in your home. The SSR is just an automatic switch/relay that switches 1 leg of the 110vac coming into the Element to break the circuit when it should be off, and complete the circuit when it should be on. The SSR is in a...

MYPIN PID help, need switch signal to be 110V

The way I understand it. you have power in, you splice your power in, one set of wires goes to your PID to power it. the other set of wires, One wire goes directly to your heating element, the other wire goes through your SSR like a light switch, and the SSR is switched open/closed through the...

    5Oaks Smoker Build

We used Pop's brine recipe and it soaked overnight in the spare fridge in the barn, wish I had longer to brine it, but we got a good 12 hrs on it anyway. I just had some SPOG on it to start, and at 140' I brushed it down with SPOG+Brown Sugar. Oh we did add 2 lemons cut in half and one lime...

    5Oaks Smoker Build

Looking Good! Resting.... Nice color and juicy!! I was a bit skittish, we let it cook to 170' to be sure on the first smoke on the new build and first bird I've smoked. Took right at 6 hrs from cold smoker to slicing. Smoker held 230-250 most of the day, I am happy with it, I did let it...
