What I meant by combination machines was mig with stick and TIG. You can make any stick welder do TIG with the right parts. If mig is what your going for I'd go with the 211. I don't have first hand experience with one but miller has never failed me.

What's your price range? That's the big question when it comes to welders. Do you want MIG only or TIG/stick? I typically stray away from combination machines. I also am not a fan of 110 machines there's just not enough power or duty cycle there to do any real fabrication. I'm a Miller fan...
Mine is 24" as well. My plate is 7.5" off the bottom of the tank. When I ran my numbers through feldons and daves calculator they came up roughly the same. 7.5" was slightly oversize but my firebox is almost 150% what is required. Any questions you have go ahead and ask if I can't answer...
Not much to show today, just wrapping up little details. The guy I'm building this for has a BBQ team called bomb diggity BBQ hence the bomb on the exhaust adjuster. I also capped the ends of the counter weight.

Depending on how you plan on sealing the door those will be in the way. These are the hinges I used on my current build. If I remember correctly they were about 10 bucks for 2 hinges. I got them at my local steel supplier. You could find them on the internet also. They are just weld on...
Just about done with the fabrication. Finished up the top rack. Put horse shoe handles on the bottom rack. Put the Tel-Tru's in the door. Put the cap on the exhaust. I put a peice of 1" square tube at each end of the cooker to hold the remote probes for smoker temp. I did them this way so...
If anyone is interested the handles I've been using are from some BBQ tools for sale at Walmart. They're only 5 bucks each for the fork. The handle is much bigger than a chipping hammer handle and I like the way they look. The CC handle is 2 of the handles welded together.
I've done quite a bit to the smoker recently. Although it doesn't really look like it. I installed a drip rail. When I put it in I put some clamps on the door to keep tension as I welded. The weld shrinkage with that clamp pressure cut the gap I had on the bottom of the door in half. I'm...
