I really appreciate it. That makes a lot of sense. I guess I should rephrase my concern/goal as not being 100% even and consistent all the time --I just want control of temps across the whole CC. It would be nice to have the ability of even temps across the CC just as other circumstances to...
I think buckhunter88 was just asking if those materials could be used to build a FB, which should be a simple yes/no answer. Unless I'm missing something?
This is just a guess but having done quite a bit of welding (never built a smoker though), I'd say that the heat transferring through the metal on an uninsulated FB is going to be high. With an offset, or really any FB directly welded to the bottom of the CC, unless you get really creative with...
Let me see if I can translate this:
"Can I use 1"x1" box tubing to build a FB frame, and then line the inside with 3/16" metal on the inside and outside... leaving a 1" gap between the plates that I'll insulate?"
That about right?
The thicker the better for a FB. I've never built a smoker...
Using 35gal drum for FB and 55gal drum for CC.
I like an offset because it's easy to have a warming tray/griddle surface and the FB door opens away from CC lid. On the other hand, an attempt at even temps across the CC is the biggest priority in this build.
Does anyone with a traditional RF...
First, I do know how to use Google. I'll try to number my questions so that it's easier to respond and also easier for someone responding to tell me to Google it if I'm asking dumb/basic questions. I have very thick skin, I prefer brutal/blunt honesty. You won't hurt my feelings so please don't...
Thanks... Yes I do believe I have a lot welding and metalwork in my near future... I'll head over to the RF section and start asking questions. Given what we have available to us, would a well designed and properly built & insulated RF smoker be our best bet?
So this may be a little odd but I'm not quite sure what I've gotten myself into. I have a buddy who is a chef and I can weld. He's a good/legit chef... like the kind that went to school to learn to cook. He's the one who wants the smoker. (not really me... I just said I'd help so we'll see where...
