Operation: Turkey Gobble. Now with bonus Q-vue!

Ok so I've not been able to get as much done as I wanted to. It's been pretty cold here and my garage is unheated. So my motivation isn't what it should be. Combine that with all the holiday stuff and the kids and you get some slacking going on. That said, I got the upper air vent cut in and...

finding the opening to cook chamber.................

Yeah I've got a decent eye for that as well, but I didn't even try to since I was coming up with a smaller number anyway. Sounds like you went all googly-eyed when you were counting the first time and got it correct now.

finding the opening to cook chamber.................

I guess I don't understand what you are doing, as I don't get 126 when I count the 6 inch high squares. I count 43 full squares, and 11 partial squares, plus a few little slivers that I didn't bother to count. Even counting all the partials as full, only gets me to 54, or 108 when you double it...

    Newbie and new RF Build

I started to think about this a little bit. Are you using a torsion spring? because something like this would be pretty slick.

    Bar grating

If you've got a torch, I'd just rough cut it with that, and then use the grinder with a thin cut off wheel to get it correct. If you have a porta-band, you can trim it up with that too. The other option would be some sort of chop saw blade on a circular saw, but that makes my ears ring just to...

ADVICE: Need a new grill - Weber vs. Char-Griller

I've got 2 CharGrillers. One I've had for ages and use as a grill. It is hanging on by a thread. The other is a Outlaw with SFB that I modified to be reverse flow. I loved it, even did a couple of pigs on it, (small ones) until the SFB rusted and fell off. I'm in process of building a reverse...

Substitute for firebrick inside of SFB?

Just as an aside, Ace hardware has a 6 pack of firebrick for $20 if you've got one close to you. Still not cheap, but $5 is $5.

    My first smoker build

I've had reasonable success with warping metal back by running a few really big hot beads on the side I wanted to warp the metal towards. So in your case, the inside of the door.

ADVICE: Need a new grill - Weber vs. Char-Griller

I've looked at those. Is it reasonable to fire it up and just cook something small, like 2 or 3 steaks or chicken breasts? My CG is done, and I'm going to replace it, but the one thing that I love about it, is the ability to throw a spatchcocked chicken on it and cook it indirect. I do the same...

Operation: Turkey Gobble. Now with bonus Q-vue!

It's only 10ga, the same as the rest of the FB. My neighbor got it for me and that was what he had. The price was right. I figured that it would just be more susceptible to cold weather and maybe rust out sooner. I didn't figure on it moving this much when it was hot. The rest of the FB moves...

Operation: Turkey Gobble. Now with bonus Q-vue!

Thanks for all the kind words everyone! No pics, because I'm a slug, but I'll get some more here in the next couple of days. I built what looks like a burner grate on top of the FB, should keep it from warping and also serve as a nice spot to put a cast iron skillet for maybe frying up some...
