I used 20" diameter 1/2 wall pipe in my build. So far i am very happy but i haven't figured it all out yet. It does take along time to get them to temp and they do hold temp for along time after you shut them down. My doors are roughly 16" x 36" and weigh around 75lbs.
If you don't already...
This sounds like a standard to shoot for! You're right it isn't just abour fuel efficiency, and it shoudn't be.
Learn your smoker and put as much fuel in as needed to get it to 225* and walk away. Don't touch it again until it is below 220* or above 230* with the the intial bench mark being 2...
I know no single test can ever be all encompassing for every condition. And as an efficiency test for smokers is concerned it very well could be monumental to establish something.
What I do know is that a lot of people, myself included, put at least some amount of stock in the formulas...
I understand the variables of altitude, humidity, air temp and other enviornmental issues that can't be controlled. And these would really cause a problem in allowing for truly accurate comparisons. As far as the fuel variables go why not use Kingsford bricketts? They are a fuel source that...
What would you consider to be a true test of an efficient smoker? I have read on a few posts that the Feldon Calculator didn’t necessarily use math to determine some of the formula(s), such as chimney height, but rather compared actually smokers and incorporated their characteristics to make the...
Thank you! . They have their imperfections that somehow the camera just didn't get pictures of but I am pretty happy with how they turned out. I hope this weekend I will be able to begin the seasoning and learning process.
There are a lot of great builds on here that could definitely...
The best part about building one of these is learning first hand what to do on the next one. Cleaning my plasma cuts with a cut off wheel is now going on that long list.
I was able spend a couple of days on the smokers and now have them on the trailer. I still need to do a few things like add thermometers, probe holes and paint but they needed to get out of the shop and it felt good to do it!
The RF fully assembled with the exception of the stand.
the FB...
On my first one I used a plasma to cut the vertical sides and about 3" across the horizontal sides first so I could weld the side flanges on. Than I went on to other things to allow the door to cool and came back and cut the horizontal side in sections again allowing it to cool. Than on my...
Before a buddy and I's first comp we knew we had to enter with a team name. We tossed around all kinds of names but the one we liked most was Early Morning Wood. We had t-shirts done up that said "Early Morning Wood Crew" and had our wives wore ones that said, "I support Early Morning Wood"...
I used my WSM for the second time this past weekend. When I fired it up it was 7 degrees out with a 24 mph NNW wind for what the news channel said was a -15 degree windchill. I put the smoker on the SE side of the garage and fired it up with a bag of lump, a handfull of apple wood and a full...
