    Memphis Pro

Blends are watered down in my opinion. It's mostly bland maple. 100% hickory is the way to go.

First Cook For The Masterbuilt Gravity Smoker

A little disappointed to hear the smoke flavor was lacking. I wonder if you smoked the ribs at a lower temp you'd get more flavor? I typically smoke mine at 225-250 all the way through without wrapping.

    Meater for Christmas

It won’t lose connection when the screen turns off. The range with Bluetooth is just not very good once you put it inside a smoker or grill. Maybe try standing the iPad up next to the sliding glass door.

    Meater for Christmas

The regular Meater has pretty poor range. I had to use one of our iPads right next to the grill and use it as a wifi repeater to my other devices. My grilling area is covered but you could put it in a zip lock bag.

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

Thanks for the info. I started with a Weber Smokey Mountain and also bought a RecTec due to the ease of use. Will the Masterbuilt be able to smoke a brisket overnight without worrying about the charcoal running out?

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

And how was the smoke flavor compared to the pellet smoker? More intense?

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

Are you putting wood in with rev charcoal or the bottom basket below the charcoal?

    Meater Block Buyer Beware ***UPDATE***

Well if your modem is dual band then setup a 2.4ghz network. It works better than 5ghz anyway. It doesn’t have nearly the range as 2.4ghz.

    Meater Block Buyer Beware ***UPDATE***

Does anyone know if the Block has 5ghz WiFi hardware? If not, a software update won’t add the capability. My WiFi router runs both 2.4 and 5 ghz.

    Meater Block Buyer Beware ***UPDATE***

I don’t know. Maybe I’m the exception but I’ve had no issues with my Block. Updating or range or connectivity.

    Meater Block Buyer Beware ***UPDATE***

I bought the Block about a month ago and updated it once. I've had no issues at all. I use it in WiFi mode and always set it next to the smoker. So far have had a solid connection. I only use 2.4ghz for all my devices as 5ghz just doesn't have the range and walls really shorten the distance.

    Pellet smokers?

LG makes a pellet cooker with a plate that slides to reveal direct flame.

    Pellet smokers?

You can cook a steak but it won't be like a direct flame grill. Grilling will also take longer to get up to temp in a pellet cooker. I use searing grates on my pellet smoker and can get sear marks but its not like throwing a steak on a gas grill for 10 minutes. Traeger is overpriced IMO.

Finally pulled the trigger - Rec Tec BFG

Nice! I have the RT 680 and occasionally use a tube. Not sure how well a tray would work.

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

I'm curious to hear how well this performs at smoking and the intensity of the smoke flavor.

Heating Pellets in a Pellet Smoker

I get it but at the end of the day none of us really know what's in the pellets. We are trusting the manufacturer as there is no 'grilling/bbq' pellet standard. No governing body like the USDA is checking the factory periodically to make sure their BBQ pellets are ok for cooking. Meeting the...

Heating Pellets in a Pellet Smoker

They were certified hardwood heating pellets.

Heating Pellets in a Pellet Smoker

I bet you can’t tell the difference between comp blend and hardwood heating pellets.

Heating Pellets in a Pellet Smoker

I could believe this depending on the company, since there really isn’t a grilling pellet standard. Some are more trustworthy than others. As long as they are 100% hardwood you’re fine.
