I would call customer service. I've had the RT 680 for 4 years and never experienced this. I've run it in negative 10 up to 90+ outdoor temps. When the direct sun hits it the temp might spike for a few minutes but never the extremes you mentioned. You may have a bad internal temp probe.
You might have a local independent Lumberjack seller nearby. Check the Lumberjack website, Craigslist or Facebook marketplace. I have a guy close to me who sells 40lb bags for $17. You can also order a bunch and split with other people. I ordered 1.5 tons of LJ pellets and split it with 4...
Resurrecting this thread as I bought a ton of these Classic briquets at Lowes for 70 cents on clearance. Why wouldn't they recommend using them in a smoker?
$16 for 20lbs is outrageous IMO. Most I am willing to pay for pellets is $20 for 40lbs. All the blends I've tried are basically the same flavor wise. Unless it's 100% hickory I wouldn't bother.
You are paying extra for the Weber name.
Just my 2 cents.
I found that after sealing the grill lid it doesn't close completely and smoke escapes out of the bottom of the lid. Do you have a wood chip smoking box in the grill chamber?
RecTec CS is great but I have had to replace several parts on my 4 year old 680. 2 ignitors, RTD probe, original controller. Then I upgraded to the new wifi controller and had to have it replaced as well. My concern would be after the warranty expires. Thankfully it's 6 years though.
I have a RecTec 680 which is replaced by the Bull. Same but Bull is all stainless. I like it and it makes things simple but it's really not a grill. I prefer direct heat for quick grilling of steaks and burgers etc. For smoking, pellet cookers don't produce enough smoke flavor for some...
I like mine so far. Much better flavor than my pellet cooker. It's not quite as simple since you do have to light it vs the pellet cooker having an ignitor. But the flavor and real grilling ability easily outweigh the simplicity of the pellet cooker. Getting up to temp and maintaining...
I'm not a big FB fan. I have a minimal amount of personal information on FB. I just use it for groups like the one for the MB 560. Tons of good info including posts from Masterbuilt employees. FB didn't require a photo ID when I signed up.
