    Question for Rec Tec users

I would call customer service. I've had the RT 680 for 4 years and never experienced this. I've run it in negative 10 up to 90+ outdoor temps. When the direct sun hits it the temp might spike for a few minutes but never the extremes you mentioned. You may have a bad internal temp probe.

Recommendation needed - cost effective flavorful pellets

You might have a local independent Lumberjack seller nearby. Check the Lumberjack website, Craigslist or Facebook marketplace. I have a guy close to me who sells 40lb bags for $17. You can also order a bunch and split with other people. I ordered 1.5 tons of LJ pellets and split it with 4...

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

Just make sure to double check their work. It’s kind of a bear to assemble and I’m not 100% sure I’d trust a Home Depot lackey....

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

I went from a WSM to an electric to a pellet and now the MB560. Same flavor as WSM, easier and more versatile. Hard to beat for $500.

Royal Oak Classic vs. Natural briquettes?

Resurrecting this thread as I bought a ton of these Classic briquets at Lowes for 70 cents on clearance. Why wouldn't they recommend using them in a smoker?

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

It’s not quite as easy as a pellet grill but it’s damn close. It makes up for it with flavor.

    Lump, Chips, etc...

Pretty much. Check your Lowe’s stores. They are phasing out Royal Oak for “Ridge”. Which is made by....Royal Oak.

    Lump, Chips, etc...

My local Lowes is clearing out Royal Oak Briquettes for 70 cents per 16lb bag. That's right 70 cents! So I bought 30 bags.

Question about sealing up the 560

It’s not necessary with this smoker/grill. Throw wood chunks in the ash bin and or mixed with the charcoal.

    Weber SmokeFire pellets. Anyone tried?

$16 for 20lbs is outrageous IMO. Most I am willing to pay for pellets is $20 for 40lbs. All the blends I've tried are basically the same flavor wise. Unless it's 100% hickory I wouldn't bother. You are paying extra for the Weber name. Just my 2 cents.

Question about sealing up the 560

I found that after sealing the grill lid it doesn't close completely and smoke escapes out of the bottom of the lid. Do you have a wood chip smoking box in the grill chamber?

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

Nothing to do except turn up the heat. Whole unit gets up to 700.

    Rec Tec Customer Service

RecTec CS is great but I have had to replace several parts on my 4 year old 680. 2 ignitors, RTD probe, original controller. Then I upgraded to the new wifi controller and had to have it replaced as well. My concern would be after the warranty expires. Thankfully it's 6 years though.

In the market for a grill

I have a RecTec 680 which is replaced by the Bull. Same but Bull is all stainless. I like it and it makes things simple but it's really not a grill. I prefer direct heat for quick grilling of steaks and burgers etc. For smoking, pellet cookers don't produce enough smoke flavor for some...

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

I like mine so far. Much better flavor than my pellet cooker. It's not quite as simple since you do have to light it vs the pellet cooker having an ignitor. But the flavor and real grilling ability easily outweigh the simplicity of the pellet cooker. Getting up to temp and maintaining...

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

I couldn’t resist. I don’t need the larger size and $500 is the sweet spot for me.

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

I'm not a big FB fan. I have a minimal amount of personal information on FB. I just use it for groups like the one for the MB 560. Tons of good info including posts from Masterbuilt employees. FB didn't require a photo ID when I signed up.

    Lumberjack pellets sale?

You can also order in bulk from bbqpelletsonline. I ordered 1.2 tons and split it with a few other guys. $13 per 40lb bag delivered.

Welding blanket size for Gravity by mb

It's -2 here in Minnesota and I don't use a blanket on my pellet smoker.

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

Same. Seems like Masterbuilt has a winner with this.
