Pit Boss Pellets, A Good Deal?

Correct. The bags don’t actually say 100% hickory though. Just says hickory. They are serviceable pellets. I finally got through an entire bag of hickory and I just wasn’t impressed with the flavor. Very light smoke flavor imported into th food.

    Does size matter?

Winter will definitely add time to your cook. A thick steel smoker and/or an insulated blanket will help.

    Does size matter?

There are a couple downsides to larger smokers. Increased time to get up to temp, slower recovery time after opening the lid and higher pellet usage. The 340 is definitely big enough for two but you could be squeezed for space feeding more than 4.

So Pit Boss vertical pellet smoker or horizontal pellet grill...

Your MES may not produce a smoke ring but do you like the flavor? A smoke ring has nothing to do with flavor. It's just a byproduct of a wood fire.

    Returning my 2nd Pellet Smoker....

Any idea what makes the Mak produce more smoke flavor? Does the fan pulse or vary it's speed? My RecTec will pulse the fan at lower temps to let the pellets smolder. I feel like it imparts a pretty solid smoke flavor.

I would agree but the price of the Mak is just out of reach for some people.

    Pellet Grills

I have grill grates and often cook at 500. It’s somewhat similar to grilling. You’ll get grill marks but not really a direct sear like you would with flame. Personally, I’m fine with it. Cooking over wood adds a flavor dimension you don’t get from gas, even at high heat. The downside is that...

Is the Yoder YS640 worth $750 more than the RecTec Stampede?

The 590 is thinner gauge steel than the Bull and a 2 year vs 6 year warranty.

    Returning my 2nd Pellet Smoker....

This comes up from time to time on here. People have different taste preferences. If you are expecting really heavy smoke flavor you won’t get it from a pellet smoker. I’m not familiar with the Masterbuilt or the Sams models. The RecTec I use definitely adds smoke to the meats I’ve been...

Is the Yoder YS640 worth $750 more than the RecTec Stampede?

The Yoder is thicker but the RecTec is stainless. The warranty on the Stampede is 2 years. I think a better comparison would be the RecTec Bull vs the Yoder 640. The Bull has a 6 year warranty, stainless cooking chamber, built in meat probes and wifi. The Yoder is a beast though and made in...

Not enough smoke flavor using my Camp Chef pellet grill.

4 of my friends bought pellet cookers after eating many meals from my pellet cooker. I must be doing something right. As for the comment about no bark, well that is just wrong.

Not enough smoke flavor using my Camp Chef pellet grill.

Sounds like you don't own a pellet smoker and therefore don't have much experience with one. I get excellent bark on my briskets and pork shoulders. As for 'real BBQ flavor' I'm not sure what that means. For reference, I've owned a charcoal smoker and a MES. Not sure what Traeger you were...

Not enough smoke flavor using my Camp Chef pellet grill.

I had a MES 30 and hated the smoke flavor. I bought the cold smoker attachment but that made it even worse. I also read about the AMNPS tray but decided to pass as I read that people were having issues keeping it lit. I like the cleaner smoke flavor of my pellet smoker. It's got plenty of...

Just ordered a Rec Tec RT-700

You won’t stop using your Weber. I’ve used the Lumberjack Char-hickory Pellets a few times. Just barely a hint of charcoal flavor. Kind of a gimmick IMO.

    Voltage to lid handle

I’ve had a couple bad ignitors. They will trip the GFCI when during startup. Or in your case, give you a shock.

Just ordered a Rec Tec RT-700

Sounds like a faulty ignitor. Call RecTec and they will send a free replacement.

    Voltage to lid handle

Do you have it plugged into a GFCI outlet? You may have a bad ignitor.

Not enough smoke flavor using my Camp Chef pellet grill.

If you’re using 100% hickory pellets and an additional smoking device I just think a pellet smoker isn’t for you. I’d hate to have to fire up two cookers. Some people prefer a heavy smoke flavor. I would get heavy flavor from my Masterbuilt electric but it was acrid and I didn’t like it...

Camp Chef SmokePro vs. RecTec RT-590 Stampede

I don't have any experience with the CC but the RecTec is mostly stainless as bregent mentioned. The entire cooking chamber is stainless which means you'll never have to worry about rust or paint peeling. Also, wifi. Might seem like a gimmick but you can monitor/change the pit temp and dual...
