Ollie,
I bought a pallet of Pellets from Todd. I have a couple of friends that went in with me so we all got a good deal. Still working on using them up.
I know what you mean. I recently did 2 pork shoulders that turned into a 20 hour run for some reason. Doing a little figuring I came up with a finished price of about $6.00 per pound, which kinda shocked me. Then I discovered that each pound would yield at least 3 of the pulled pork...
I have a 640 and never think about the cost of the pellets I use. There are times I fire it off and put one steak in it. Being single I don't fill it vary often. It is more the flavor of the food that comes off of it, you just can't beat it. That said many times I'll plan a smoke to do...
Several friends have told me the same thing about the time. Maybe next time I'll raise the temp a bit and see what happens. Last time I bought Pellets on the open market up here in the Pacific Northwest they were 19.95 + tax for 20 lbs and those were Oak based blends. That's part of the...
Don't know anything about the RecTec, but have friends with the GMG and they love it. A possible alternative would be the Yoder ys480. Very heavy construction, very good customer service, and Made in America.
Yes and I've done that. Just doesn't seem worth the trouble of heating up the oven, bringing everything in when that portion of things doesn't generally take all that long. Just turn up the temperature on the grill and let it finish. Just my .02
Ok, my cook yesterday was 18 hours of cooking time plus another 30-45 minutes warm up. So for giggles lets just call it 19 hours. I burned 36 pounds of pellets. Figuring the price per pound of available pellets in this area that puts me slightly under $2.00 per hour. However I bought a...
Ok, at 14 hours I have reloaded the Hopper twice. Temperature here was 46-49 all day with very light wind. Had the Yoder set on H-3 and the Temperature set at 230. Finally hit the point where I could wrap the pork in foil so have raised the temp seting to 260 and will probably kick it up to...
I'll try to keep track of how many times I reload the hopper. Just started the grill with a full hopper, will see what happens over the next 12-18 hours.
Right on, same unit I have. Good information. I'll be running mine tomorrow with 15 lbs of Boneless Pork Shoulder for Pulled Pork, so will go through a bunch of pellets. Temp's predicted in the mid 40's with a bit of wind.
While I have a Great Outdoor Smokey Mountain, I had several problems right at first with my AMNPS. First was Air Flow, solved that and still had problems. Was using Bear Mountain Pellets and they were Alder based and even set out in the open would not keep going. Went to Treager which were...
Hope you enjoy your new toy. I also endorse getting 1 of Todd's Smoking tools for adding more smoke to things. They will also let you Smoke Cheese which can become a bit of an addiction.

I've had my Yoder YS 640 for a little over a year now. I had one minor problem that really was my fault, but the company jumped on things and sent me a complete update kit anyway. This thing cooks AWESOME in my humble opinion. Everything from Smoked Salmon through Steaks without any...
Don,
I can give Todd's pellets a big recommendation. Nothing like using 100% pellets. I own a Yoder YS 640 and have used Todd's new Tubular product with GREAT results. Don't see any reason it wouldn't work in the GMG.
