Tools you like to use building smokers

I just picked up a Hobart plasma cutter cheap, supposed to be delivered today. About to start a small smoker build with a 100# propane cylinder, so I will make good use of it. Hoping it works as it should, getting all giddy inside, thinking about how much time I am going to save with it.

I think I may have done a bad thing - a small piece of galvanized pipe in my build

Thanks for the input and the article. I also found this article to be quite interesting as well, it warns that only high acidic foods not come in contact with the galvanized materials. That being said, I am going to heat that pipe up and force it to flake, hit it with some abrasive and call it...

I think I may have done a bad thing - a small piece of galvanized pipe in my build

Thanks all for the input. I was thinking I really screwed myself. LOL. I have both an acetylene torch and one of those inferno propane starters, will reach up in there and heat it up. The galvanizing coating is not thick like on boat trailers, looks like a light shimmer to the coloration on...

I am so sick to my stomach right now.  I just finished a 5 week build and I was cleaning up some of my materials tonight and came across a piece of pipe that may be galvanized. I only used this pipe in one place, it carries the grease from my baffle plate trough down to the ball valve under...

    Fire box question ?

I am using 1/4 plate on my FB. People I have talked to people say it is not really needed in my case. Just seasoned and ran my smoker twice to see how the heating and fire management behaves, no warping yet. Anybody have a different opinion? Thanks in advance!

Funny you posted this, I was just thinking this same thing a few days ago. I am a converted cooker - started with electric, went to charcoal, then to stick burner. (just finished my build this past weekend but have ran friend's RF units with stick only. Still trying to figure out which way I...
