I have added another 5" duct and increased the size of the exhaust to 5" too. I'm now facing some smoke leaks and cold air ingress; so I will be using RTV silicon a lot this weekend.
Thanks jayberque
Hi there,
I just did my first smoking batch last night. I smoked 2 lbs of wings as a trial, I did not do anything to the wings other than washing them before smoking. After getting them to 175 IT and cooking them I immersed them in wing sauce that I made and grilled for another 30 min at 200F...
Hello, I have just finished building one that looks more or less like yours. I was wondering if you have faced any problems controlling the temperature?
Mine reached 235 F stuck there for a bit then took a dive to 188 F. for the remaining 4 hours I never saw 235 again.
Do you know what kind of...
As promised, I smoked some chicken wings using some mango wood. I have been drying that wood since last september and now it is pretty dry.
As soon as I added the wood to the coals; a caramel smell evolved which was very pleasant. The wings came out very good.
I do not have any reference to...
Today I have made the final modifications to the barrels. I added another 5" duct connecting the two chambers and enlarged the exhaust from 2" to 5".
These mods did the trick, I have reached a temperature of 250F and higher :)
I just need to control the exhaust with a damper now. Now it is...
Hi all,
I have been trouble shooting my double barrel smoker for the last 3 weekends. My issue is that the temperature in the cooking chamber does not exceed 188 F.
My firebox air intake is 2"
The connection between the two chambers is a single 5" duct
The exhaust pipe is 2" (I think I...
Hello to all,
I have made the following upgrades during the weekend.
I have added a new 5" duct and sealed all the leaky parts with thermal RTV silicon which should withstand the heat I suppose.
I am planing to test it out today and see it I actually get the desired temperature inside the...
Phrett, you are correct.
I Tested it again using a digital thermometer and 6 lb of charcoal, The maximum temperature I got using a blower was 185 F while the maximum temp on natural induction was 158 F.
The problem is as you stated that the two pipes are small so there is not much hot air...
I will be trying Mango wood soon, I used to spray it with Auxins and Algae extract for it to produce good fruit if that what you are referring to. I am pretty sure that what I am spraying is totally organic since that was the whole point of planting fruits at home in the first place.
Will keep...
I am having some problems with achieving a high temperature in the cooking chamber. I don't have the thermometers yet but I think it is around 110-120F (which is practically cold)
I was using 6-7 logs of wood and around 2 pounds of coal (I was just testing for leakage so I needed lots of white...
Thank you for sharing
This one looks great, but on my side here I don't have these kits available. so here is what I did till now.
I did fire it up today with some charcoal and scrap wood to burn anything inside (just in case). Currently I have some temperature control problems but also I...
