For sure. It's got to take a long time to roll that. I started shopping steel pipe. Way cheaper (21' of 20" diameter for $900...why not make 4 smokers?). I just wonder how thick it is. I am waiting to hear back. The 60 gallon compressor tank I have in my garage is looking better and better...
I was thinking about making another smoker. I started getting quotes for rolled steel for the CC and firebox. $675 for a 42" x 20" diameter x 3/16" pipe and a 22" x 20" diameter 3/16 pipe? Damn, seemed high to me. This does not even include the end caps. Guess my plans might be changing...
I built a reverse flow out of a 33 gallon compressor. Overall I am pretty happy with it.

Yesterday when the chicken was done I decided to put the second maverick temp probe on the grate and keep the smoker...
Don't try to do anything to slow it down. They have a mind of their own. When it is done, even if early, wrap in foil and place in a preheated (boil water, pour in cooler to preheat) cooler and then fill any empty space with towels. You can hold it like this for 4-6 hours if need be. Or wrap...
I am a newbie too but you should definitely use 1/4" steel for the firebox. I built a 33 gallon reverse flow. I almost used 1/8" but was talked out of it and used 3/16" instead. I am so glad that I did. 1/4" would be even better for me but for my small smoker, 3/16 seems fine (plus my welder...
Smaller fire was the ticket along with letting the log catch fire for about 30 seconds before closing the door. It ran sooooo much more efficient. I used a total of 3 logs for the 7 hour cook. Before the changes, it would have been 6-7 logs of white billowing nasty smoke. It all makes sense...
Today was the first time using this smoker that I feel like it is functioning correct! Making some beef short ribs that I am going to cut and make imitation burnt ends. I am about to cut up the meet after a 6 hour smoke. My problems seemed to be a combo of things. I was using too much wood...
Interesting. Yes, the tank is 18" in diameter. I will keep that in mind as I continue to perfect the smoker! The exhaust is actually 25" tall but I have been using a 5" extension to make it 30". I may take off that extension for my next smoke.
Pipe is 2.75" inside diameter. About 30". I have thought about trying a 3.25" inside diameter but I am tired of working on it!

I will give that a try. My next smoke I am going to try and make a smaller fire, leave the upper vent almost all the way closed and use smaller pieces of...
All air leaks are 100% sealed. I added a gasket and clamps to the CC door. FB to CC opening looks good and clear...so long as my math was correct originally.
Having learned smoking on a big green egg, I have learned to be patient with adjustments. It seems as though by the time the temp...
A few updates.
While this is the first side box smoker I have ever used, I am still learning exactly how these things should work. It seemed as though the smoke was building in the CC. When I opened the door it would be a spinning vortex of thick smoke. Sometimes I could get rid of this and...
