Do you need smoke through out the ENTIRE cooking process?

smokemeup welcome to SMF and the Electric Forum, the unofficial home for MES owners. smokemeup you need to spend a little time reading back at least 5 pages of threads, all your questions have been asked and answered multiple times.  I say this because you are new and you do want info and it is...

how well does the MES 40 work in the cold?

A properly labeled 12 gauge cord should work fine out 50ft.  I use a 50' ft 12 gauge cord with no problems. I strongly suggest that you preheat your MES, the lower the temp the longer the preheat.  In Sacramento we don't experience too many real cold days below 32º, however twice I have smoked...

    A-MAZEN and MES Issues

I have my MES in a outdoor cooking gazebo type structure, it is covered (with tarp) over the top and on 3 sides.  The open side has the house in front of it 3ft away so hardly any wind circulates inside.  I would take a pic and show, however the the tarp finally rotted due to sun rot (cheap...

2012 MES 40" Dissappointing Right Out Of The Box!

As always Todd your the dude that can engineer some niffty things that help the MES! Great pics, great write up! It is obvious that Masterbuilt who started with a great basic design of the original MES, has decided that bling sells! Therefore we have windows, wheels, multiple thermometer...

    FIrst Electric MES 30

To each congrats on your new MES. You guys need to spend some time reading back 5 to 10 pages of posts in this electric forum most questions you have get answered. If buying a Maverick thermometer buy the ET-732, it simply is a no brainer, one probe to monitor inside cabinet temp, the other...

    A Couple of MES Questions

I'm on the left coast where we typically don't get temps too low below freezing, I have used it a couple of times when the temp was 28-29ºF.  Mine is in a covered area, before we bought this house it was just under an eave, with no wind protection, now I can block the wind on three sides.  As TJ...

    Masterbuilt Electric Smoker

That is the 30" older style MES "Masterbuilt Electric Smokehouse", it has a digital controlled heat, with built in sensor to cycle when set temp is achieved, you can add wood chips via an external tube without having to open the door, stainless inside, water pan / drip pan and cooking racks...

Cleaning my MES - Let the steam do the work

Yes you can put in dishwasher, that is how I have been doing it for 6 years.  Best to do it right after finishing a smoke.  Don't be lazy and wait a few days.  The tuff bits use a brillo pad to get off before putting in dishwasher. I have heard but do not know first hand that due to the cheap...

MES 40" Wood Tray Upgrade from Mfg..

Actually the retrofit kit is a result of Masterbuilt changing the chip tray assembly so that the chip tray was approx half the size of the original AND they added a piece of metal that separated the bottom of the tray from the heat element.  The older style full size tray (ala same in retrofit...

    Another newbie post!

supra0001 before I bought the Mav 732 I used a cheap Taylor with remote probe plus a Oven Analog type that sits in the oven.  I place the oven analog on the middle rack,  and set so I could crack the door and get a quick reading.  Since the analog is slow reacting I didn't have to worry about...

    MES 3 weeks old

MES = Masterbuilt Electric Smokehouse, the smokehouse moniker has been specific to the Digital models as seen on this page, which shows digital as smokehouse. The MES acronym on SMF was specific to the Digital model/smokehouse, the main reason is that Masterbuilt produced the smokehouse/digital...

Please help? Confused on which one to buy..

Thanks, for the nice comment.  I have more time now semi-retired, but I'm even less inclined to want to fiddle with fires and smoker management, instead I like working on the rubs and sauces and ways to round out the meal with great tasting side dishes and appetizers.  It all takes energy...

    MES 40 Vent Stuck...

In general Mike I'm with you, my vent is full open if using wood chips via the MES wood chip/smoker assembly or pellets with the AWNPS. However there are times, like using sawdust, where very little exhaust is required.  I have some new hickory wood flakes, not chips, not sawdust I'm going to...

    MES 3 weeks old

Bahafish, you did an excellent job in taking pics and explaining the process, I am so happy it worked for you. Sorry Bahafish, your model is NOT a MES, the MES has a side external wood chip feeder the chips are put into a tube and dumped from outside the smoke into the chip tray inside the...

    MES 40 Vent Stuck...

There has to be a reason it hangs up.  Closely examine the parts, and try to figure out the problem then the cure.  You might try a little Pam or veg oil to lub it before cooking, and see if when the heat gets high enough and metal is expanding that the lube keeps it working.

Please help? Confused on which one to buy..

Brittany25, how nice your guy has a wife willing to pop for such a nice gift.  My wife bought me a Weber gas BBQ grill, and I have appreciated and used it a LOT in the past 12 years. Brittany IMHO you have two choices, like the majority of SMF members who participate in the electric forum (this...

    MES additonal heater mod

Many posters like myself us either photobucket, imageshake or another photo storage site.  The posters in this thread haven't been on SMF for a long time, if they used a service they could have either closed their account there or ran out of allowed free storage, and older pics deleted.  If they...
