    One interesting aspect of the vertical is that you dont have to use the firebox. A fire grate directly underneath the food in the cc works also for cooler or smaller or more efficient smokes, WSM style.

    Sure, play sand is a larger grit. Hopefully even washed to remove the fines. Its the ground up small particles capable of being airborne that seem to be the issue. But a pile of sand you heat dry and knock about will produce a self ground powder as will many materials as you tumble them. I...

    Silicates can cause a condition called silicosis. Its generally on the package as a warning when purchasing silicate material for construction, such as grouts and mortars. To ingest it is probably to only wear teeth down, but to lodge it in a lung is a more serious issue.

    I heard walnut give people a reaction also but I dont know why. I would believe however, that if you reduced the privet into lump charcoal, the removal of the organic material would render it harmless, but I dont actually know, and would have to read more on the Terpenoid glycosides.

    Recon its a cold smoke generator? The grates throw me. There are some fish related cold smokes that use vveerryy little smoke. More of a drying out or lox making idea. I also found some long spout torch lamps that remind me of that thing. Get your bud to txt you some pics.

    Need An Ash Rake-

    I took a length of aluminum 1 or 2 inch bar stock and bent a handle/hook for hanging and gripping and made a sweeping s shape for the ash side. Its almost L shaped really, but I can bend it for whichever firebox shape I am dealing with.
