I just sent them an email and looked on their site as well. The Hickory reads like it's 100% Hickory, with "no fillers". I wonder if that's true cuz that's not what they said when I called them.
Ok...here's the weird part...from what Pit boss told me, it sounds like they're saying those percentages make up the flavor woods they're using, however those flavor woods only comprise 30% of the whole blend. The base or filler wood comprises the other 70%, which is either alder or oak.

Meat Mopper, I'm not an expert at this, for sure. I've spoken with the developer of MAK a couple of times and from what I understand, it's all in the timing of the burn cycles. For instance Green Mountain Grills programmed their controllers to produce a much or delicate or subtle smoke flavor...
Don't mean to dominate the thread. Just want to say that I'm sure there are other, more affordable alternatives to the MAK, that still give a smoke flavor like an offset. If OP does his research on this and other pellet sites, he should be able to find the one for him.
My mistake is one that I...
Let me add...and I really hope this helps. Buy once and you'll save $, time and trouble. Believe me, I bought my first pellet smoker at Costco and regretted it, so I returned it and bought another, name brand pellet smoker and it still didn't produce the smoke flavor I wanted. I added 2 or 3...

By the way, remember that with the GMG, you can purchase the optional remote controller that will allow you to adjust set temps and monitor pit and meat temps. Like I said, for the money, you can't get any better performance.
I have a Green Mountain Grill, Daniel Boone, a WSM and a Primo XL. In terms of smoke flavor, you can rate the WSM first, then the Primo, then the GMG. In terms of ease of use, the GMG is the easiest.
I started with a Traeger 075 and was getting wild temp swings. I really didn't like that I...
