Dang, that sucks. You are far more patient than I am with all the phone calls to GMG you had to make. I am trying to get the temps under control on my Daniel Boone, I had to wait about 4 days for GMG tech to call me back. It was a Friday when I called, so I am hoping that is why it took 4 days...
Think you are going to like it. Remember the smoke taste will be milder in a pellet smoker, so you may want to invest in a Amazen Tube or Smoke Daddy Ring for additional smoke.
I am getting close to getting the temp difference under control. A new controller (non wifi) seems to be helping along...
My local dealer put me in contact with a GMG rep. He said make sure the chimney cap is at least 2 fingers width open. He also said to make sure the top grease tray covers the holes in the bottom grease tray. He said if temps are within 30 degrees left to right, they consider that a success.
He...
I regret not doing more research and looking at other brands. I would have liked to have saved up and got a Yoder or other higher end brand. I have had a couple of temperature issues. GMG customer service pretty much just went off of a checklist and was not very helpful. They passed me off to...
I finally got around to doing a temp test to see where I am at with temps in my Daniel Boone. I used 3 third party probes and the set point was 225F. Calm day and outside temp was 65F.
Probe 1 - Therm Pro stuck through a potato
Probe 2 - Thermoworks Smoke clipped to grate
Probe 3 - Maverick...
I would call or email Masterbuilt customer service. There are numerous posts on this forum of temps issues and a lot of them point to the controller. Most folks who run their problems by MB customer service say the service is great and they send replacement parts out quickly.
I don't put any meat on the rack directly above the tray. I put a disposal aluminum pan turned upside down to act as a shield for the AMNPS tray. Others here have made a "tent" over the AMPNS. Not exactly sure how they did it, they might have taken metal coat hangars and made some type of frame...
I agree with the posters before me. You will be hard pressed to find a good quality pellet smoker at $400. If you do find one, I would be very suspicious.
Was curious how others store the sawdust from Amazen. What kind of container do you use? I have several 1lb bags and would like to put them in something that is easy to dispense to the AMNPS. I went to The Container Store but didn't see anything that really appealed to me.
Thanks..
I wonder if it is a defective controller. Not sending the signal to the element to shut down. I know the temps will continue to coast for a time, but have not heard of never shutting off. I would call Masterbuilt, I hear they have excellent customer service. And they promptly send out...
I think most experienced users here do not use water in the pan. Some cover it in foil for easy cleanup and some put playground sand in it and cover with foil. Some users here feel that the sand in the pan helps to regulate and stabilize the temperature (I think). For myself, I have never used...
I found Lumberjack at a store called Bomgaars. It was about $10.99 per 20lb bag. Decent selection too. Lumberjack is 100% of the stated wood. Like it was posted previously, there is no fillers or oils added. If it says 100% apple, that is what you get.
Amazen Products has pellets that a lot of...
Hey Al.. I was thinking of getting the cold smoke attachment thru Amazon. What kind of pipe would you suggest to put between the MES and the attachment? I have the 3 inch flexible dryer vent hose for the mailbox mod, could that work? Thanks..
Goldmine
Was wondering how much dust it takes to fill the AMNPS maze? I don't want to buy a large amount (4lb) this time until I am certain it is what I want. Will 1lb fill the maze? Just bought a pork belly from Sam's Club and will use the maze and dust in the MES30 or the mailbox to make some bacon...
I've owned the GMG Daniel Boone for several months now. I like the set and forget aspect, plus you can go up to 500 degrees which helps crisp the skin on poultry. But on it's own I have found very little smoke flavor. And from what I have read, that is most pellet smokers/grills. The pellets are...
