Thanks Pineywoods. I picked up some chunks @Walmart the other day. I was pretty sure that those would do better, then I saw that my chip box wouldnt hold but about 1 chunk. :/ Looks like I'm making a trip to Lowes in the AM!

Michael,
I'm going to have to look into that bread pan. What kind of material is it made out of? I was thinking about "borrowing" the wifes cast iron pan. I'm doing a fatty tomorrow morning and need something that will hold more than a handful of chips. Did you just do a foil tent over the top...
I don't know if this is the right place to post this but, I was searching through the threads and Wiki's and found the Fatty Piston. Great little invention that thing! I know it doesn't take a lot of mechanical knowledge to build one but, since this forum is here to help out newbies and old...
If you don't want to make a fatty piston, you can always "borrow" your wife/girlfriends/moms cookie dough press! Great looking fatty and using the ziplock to make the loaf was an awesome idea!

The vent ontop doesnt close all the way. I had it a quarter of the way open and it was maintaining temp like a champ. Once the intial hard white smoke thinned out to the TBS I couldn't see any coming out the door or around the thermometer. I still think I am going to seal up around...
I did a 10lb boston butt for my first smoke and it came out great! From what I have heard and read, Pork is pretty forgiving. You'll want a butt with a good bit of fat across the top. Then slather it up with your favorite rub and toss her in!

Thats the one I just got. Was easy to put together but I have found a few issues with it since doing my first smoke. The door temp gauge is about 50 degrees hotter than the actual internal temp according to my oven thermometer, it leaks smoke around the temp gauge and door seal and it blows...

I just moved back here from Texas. DFW area. I went to HS over in Panama City, did a 6 year tour of Barksdale AFB in Louisiana and then came back to PC. Moved to TX for about 3yrs and finally made it back home. Glad I did too, the heat out there this year is crazy!

Hey all! Just got my first gas smoker. a 34" landmann vertical. I also run a brinkmann 4 burner grill. Im some what of a newbie when it comes to smokin. My first smoke was in a Oklahoma Joe knock-off with the side-fire box. I did a 16hr smoke on a 10lb pork shoulder and it came out beautifully...
