Pink salt, Prague Powder # 1, Insta-Cure, Modern Cure are all the same thing....sodium nitrate in a 6.25% concentration. It is the key ingredient in TQ and most any other cure mixture out there. TQ is mainly sugar and sodium nitrate if I remember correctly. It is colored pink so it will not...
Have you tried Northwest Butcher Supply out in Clackamas?
If they do not carry TQ, they should carry pink salt.
Fred Meyer in Alaska carries TQ as do some of the sporting goods and butcher supply shops.
Wonder how well it holds temps. I like the lower door feature. Change out the chips without letting all the heat and smoke out of the top of the unit.
Not a bad price either. Only three racks, but for the average family it should be fine if it works well.
I buy from sweet maria's too.
You do not need anything fancy to roast some good coffee. I use one of those hot air popcorn poppers and it works like a charm. Paid 2 bucks for it at a yard sale if I remember right.
Been wanting to buy the MES 40, but I cannot find them locally. Seems no one carries that model or they have been sold out for months. I could buy online, but the few places that have it in stock will kill me with the shipping charges.
I can find the Original Bradley at a couple places as...
Another good book is How to Brew, by John Palmer.
Another cheap hint is to get some plastic water cooler bottles to use as a fermentation vessel. Be sure and use the ones with the number 1 or 2 in the triangle. There is some debate on using the number 7 water bottles for home brewing, so I...
If you really want to be cheap, you can put together a 'kit' for next to nothing.
Go to your local grocery store and stop by the bakery dept. With a big smile on your face, ask kindly if they have any food grade buckets to spare. You can usually get all you want for free at the right place. ...
I used to brew several years ago. Just moved into a place with a garage this summer, so I am thinking of getting back into it. Mainly extracts and some partial mash brews.
Made my own mead and wine too. Finished the last of my raspberry wine a couple months ago. Pretty good stuff.
20 degrees is the average high temp during our winters. Common to see lows of 0 or single digits. Minus temps usually hit in January and stick around for a few weeks. Had a nice cold spell a couple years ago where the temp did not get above zero for nearly a month. After that 10 degrees...
I found some Ginger Garlic a couple years ago. Have not seen it since. I can find the Hawaiian, Original, and Cracked Pepper pretty easily up here.
The wife and I have been fans of these sauces for nearly 20 years.
You guys have just about sold me on the MBS40 and the AMNS. Now to just find one locally.
Thinking I will build an UDS for use in the summer as well. Not sure how one would hold heat during the winter up here.
In comparing the cost, I can get a Bradley original with a PID for about the same cost as a MBS40 with Amazin smoke generator. I can buy pucks for the Bradley locally, so I am not too worried about those. If I could score an MBS40 at Sams it would be cheaper, but they are out of stock and do...
