    pear tree

I have used bradford pear for poultry and pork, specifically ribs. Does great. I've mixed in crab apple and oak too with it and it has a really nice flavor paired with other woods or it can  just be used individually.  Tyler

    Woods For Smoking

@ smokey bruin Honestly, I wait until the Santa Ana season. I don't know which part of socal that you live in, but where I live, the city plants a million bradford pear trees, and those things always snap in the wind. Another option, is find a citrus grove or avocado grove nearby. But, I would...

    Crabapple wood

Ive used it before and it's great. In fact, I can't tell the difference between crab apple and regular apple, it tastes very similar. I use it on white and pink meats mainly, also on some red meat too. Tastes great and smells good. You'll like it :) Tyler

    apricot wood ???

Ive used it before. Very similar to peach and nectarine. Great, great flavor. Use everything on that tree! Ive used it on the thanksgiving turkey, ribs, pork butt, poultry. Pink and white meats are best. Do some game hens with it. Put a glaze on it, and youll have the best tasting food anywhere...

    Woods For Smoking

@bdillard Happy New Year. I too use chunks in an older green egg, along with my weber kettles. Oak and apple are great. Oak, hickory, apple, cherry can all be used with each other. Since your in Florida and Im in California, we do have some similar fruit trees. Pear/apple are great. Also, try...

    PEAR WOOD

Great wood to smoke with. I've used it on ribs, chicken, other pork cuts like chops, roasts, etc. Real mild smoke, but great flavor. You can use apple and pear interchangeably, at least in my experience. I also use them together, and it produces a great flavor. Have a good time with it :)

    Wood to use for smoking

I cut one down, split it, cut it into chunks (fist size) and within a week or so I was using them. I think if you cut it up and let it sit for a few days, theyll be good to go. Try it on ribs or pork. I grilled a couple of tbones with it too and it came out great. Enjoy!

    Questions about wood

I use unseasoned fruit wood chunks like apple, bradford pear, peach, any stone fruit tree, cherry, etc. And I've never had a problem with them coating whatever I'm smoking with a bitter taste. I just split them, cut them into fist size chunks and let them go. But, if it was an oak or hickory or...

    I hit the Mother load!

No sorry. I just listed everything that i got off of this guy. I don't use soft woods unless it's your typical cedar plank salmon. Soft woods will be for the fire pit. Sorry for the confusion :)

    I hit the Mother load!

Well i asked him and he said that ever since he retired, he just likes having trees that are cut up dumped to him. He does a lot of wood working and the stuff he doesnt mill he splits and burns, but he got in over his head with wood, or at least in my opinion. So he just gives it away when...
