Thanks for the foil tip. I will make sure there is none on the bottom of the stone. It is supported about 2" above the element on the rack that used to support the chip loader.

Last night tested the smoker box. Ran all night with no problems. Wanted to check it out and season it before hooking it up to the smoker. Just wondering if this is the right amount of smoke? You can't really see any smoke in the picture but it is smoking. I have the damper about 3/4 closed...
12 hrs later and it is still smoking. I closed the damper down ti about a quarter open. Guess that AMPNS tray really works. I will open it up when it gets daylight and see how much of the tray has burned
Doing a test. Please look at the volume of smoke coming out of the chimney. This is with the damper wide open. I expect when it is hooked up to the smoker and the heat in the smoker is rising out the smoker damper the draw will increase. Just asking opinions on the volume of smoke. This is...
Took a while to assemble all the parts but here it is. Only things different are i used an electrical pull box instead of a mailbox and i put a damper on it.
Well i did the PID mod. Nothing electronic from the original remains. Very pleased with the results.
Just about complete with my mailbox mod. I will post pics tomorrow.
Only thing left of the original smoker is the cabinet and element.

As you can see i drilled out the back rivits and put the back on with 3/4" #10 machine screws.
All wiring is concealed. All original wiring and electronics was removed. I wired up the pid controller according to the enclosed instructions.

I was just being humorous. I was wondering if i would see a clear winner from all you experts. What i see is like me you use different woods with different meat.
I am going to get the package deal with some of all of it. We will see how that goes. If i pick a clear favorite

Maybe the best path is one of his package deals with 4 2# packages of different wood and try them.
