    Jacks old South Cooker

I've heard him say that before but on this weeks episode of Pitmasters he had to wrap the smoker in army blankets to retain heat. Didn't appear too insulated!

Does your drum have a water pan?

I just seasoned my drum last Sunday and the following morning it was still hot and very moist inside, I will not be adding a water pan. Donny, your drum looks great can post any other pictures of it?

    Wal Mart or Sams ?

We buy most of our meat at Sam's, really can't afford not to. Hell with 5 kids, we spend over $200 a month on milk, eggs, cereal and diapers alone!!

Budget Charcoal Smoker for a competition?

I agree with Fatback, build 2 or 3 UDS for the same price of a WSM 22" and start practicing! There are many on this board that can help with any UDS questions you may have, good luck!!

Okay guys lighter fluid or not

I just started using the weber chimney starter last year and I like it expect the ash of newspaper is annoying. I used lighter fluild for 25 years and if you let your briquettes get completely ashed over (white) all that fluid is gone. This will date me a little but when I grilled with my...

    minion method ?

Salt, It sounds like you got it right. How many "cold" briquettes do you have down before you had the ashed over coals. When I use this method I make sure I have a good amount coals and wood chunks down before I add the fired coals. Also, if you can get Kingsford Competition briquettes they...

My first UDS is complete and running w/Pics

I just bought 3 cans of Duplicolor engine paint from Checker and a can of clear. Only $22 bucks so not bad. Make sure you sand it down good first. You shouldn't need the primer with your header paint on there. Happy smokin!

    Walmart Packers

I've had select fromn Wally and choice from Sams and Costco. Cant tell the difference. It's really about being able to pick out a good piece of meat as others have stated. By the way Albertsons has choice grade packers for $1.99 this week.

My UDS Build with a Question (pics)

These guys are correct, the epoxy liner must come out. Have your intake holes all the way open and build a hot fire, using hardwoods will be hotter. I used two chopped oak pallets and threw in chunks of 8/4 maple. Even after the fire you will need to wire brush/wheel the remaining off. It takes...

ADVICE: Need a new grill - Weber vs. Char-Griller

No question, go with the Weber, it will last you a lifetime and is extremely versatile. I'm a little bias because I grew up them but have also grilled on my friend Char-griller units.. No comparison. I have a 22.5 I love but my favorite is my 26.75 Weber my Mom bought for my Dad 2 years before i...
