My new American Barbeque Systems smoker

Good luck in your competition.  When I first bought my ABS All Star I made a post under the wood smoker forum entitled, " Finally made a decision on a backyard smoker"  ABS All Star, with some pictures.   Now that I'm ready I will do a smoke and post pics with results.  I will also post about...

My new American Barbeque Systems smoker

Rickey    I made my basket this weekend and fired up the smoker the way you recommended .  Everything works great.  I love the basket.  Mine is 12X8X6inches deep.  fits perfect and makes it much easier to control heat source.  Do you use the damper between the firebox and smoker much.  I...

My new American Barbeque Systems smoker

Ricky great web site.  What is the dimension on your basket and how did you determine the size compared to the fire box.  Based on what you said about the amount of fuel you use I assume the basket you made is much smaller than the length of your fire box. Your comments have really been helpful.

My new American Barbeque Systems smoker

Thanks Ricky.   I will give it another test run this weekend.  When you get a chance posting  a picture of your basket in and out of your smoker along with the measurements would interesting to see.  I appreciate you help.  mike

Can a stock thermometer be off by alot

Just bought an ABS all star smoker.  the probe it came with is 50 to 75 degrees lower than my maverick 733 probes placed in close proximity of each other.  I tested both in boiling water and both were spot on but when in the smoker I have the difference.  the manufacture told me to rely on the...

My new American Barbeque Systems smoker

Thanks for the start up info.  Ill try it next time. Do you spread you charcoal out evenly in the firebox or leave it in the middle?  If you spread it out sounds like it would just be enough to cover the  bottom of the fire box. Once you got the smoker going do you adjust the smoke stack damper...

My new American Barbeque Systems smoker

I bought an ABS All Star last Dec.    Just starting to use it now that the weather has warmed up.   Do you use water tray in the bottom of yours our just put some water in the bottom of smoke box.  I use two 9 by 12 trays.  I have found the ABS probe in the door to be consistently off 60 degrees...

What should be on the top rack ....the brisket or the baby back ribs

Thanks for the feed back Chef Jimmy.  I was starting to think I made a bad choice of getting a smoker with three different verticle levels to cook on.

What should be on the top rack ....the brisket or the baby back ribs

thanks     I was concerned about the juices of the brisket on the ribs or vis versa effecting the taste.  So it sounds like like I shouldn't put different meats on the three levels of smoker racks if the juices are going to drop on a different type of meet. Does everyone agree.  This really...

What should be on the top rack ....the brisket or the baby back ribs

I have an ABS all star smoker with three racks.  I was wondering if it makes a difference whether the ribs  or the brisket are on the top rack.  The top is the warmest.  Should I be concerned with the juices from the one dropping down on to the other.  Should I not cook brisket  and baby...

Is this the Maverick everyone uses?

I recommend you get the latest maverick which is the 733.  It has some significant improvements over the 732.  It came out this fall.

Help with tweaking my skills please

I use lump charcoal that you can get at most stores.  I start the fire in a chimney and then put it in the fire box.  I adjust the vent until my temp is ready and then put the meat in. Its at this point that I put three or four apple wood chunks on top of the lump charcoal.  Do not soak them in...

I finally made a decision and bought a backyard smoker. American BBQ Systems - All Star
