Thanks, I guess I'm putting in fire bricks. The small ones should be fine right? I think they call them a half brick, they are only about an inch high. It seems like a full brick would be to high.
urbotrimmm, I was going to put a pullout fire grate just above my air inlets. This would put the grate about 4.5 inches above the bottom of the FB. Would the bricks be for insulation only? keeping the heat in the box or would they be for wear on the bottom of the FB? Sorry, if it seems like a...
Well I got the FB welded on, finally. Now it's on to build Dave's version of a heat baffle plate. Going to try and make it as one piece, like the bolt on idea, I think that way you can always remove it relatively easy for adjustments if necessary. Thanks again for everyone's input and help this...
Urbotrimmm, If you look at my colored diagram I'm thinking about placing an air inlet on the door to FB, Its where the yellow arrow and question mark are in the diagram. Hopefully this will allow air into the FB causing flow down the RF plate
SQWIB, I thought that if it angled down it would help in eliminating the hot spot. But never considered the possibility of a swirling effect. If I angled it upward at a slight angle would that be a better solution? Also what do you think about inlets on just one side of the FB or on both sides...
OK, this is what Im thinking about doing. Any thoughts, comments or suggestions?
A. The green lines represent my baffle plates
B. The red line is my RF plate
C. The yellow are my air intakes,
The yellow line with the question mark is an additional air inlet on the FB door to help move along...
Dave, I thought what SQWIB was talking about was heat being generated from the top edge/corner of the firebox sticking into the CC. So by insulating the top of the FB this could possibly minimize that heat. But I guess you would still have to put a baffle plate in because the FB end would still...
SQWIB, thanks for the pictures, Dave once again thanks for your input. As far as the baffle plate I ran across this picture on the web, it shows an insulated firebox. If you just insulated the top portion of the box would that solve the hot spot in the CC? And if so, could you use any type of...
Hi Guys, Sorry Ive been really busy and have not had much time to check the forum,
SQWIB, now that you point it out I could see where that would create a hot spot. I'm going to have to add a baffle plate though, I really like the looks of the round ends.
Dave, Thanks for the drawings, I do...
Well, I was able to make some time to continue on with the smoker today. So we measured and notched out the FB to CC opening, hopefully we can get it welded up this week.
