area of a circle is pi * r² , pi is equal to about 3.14 and r is the radius of the circle
two 4" pipes gives you 25.12 square inches and one 8" pipe gives you 50.24 square inches.
One 6" pipe would be 28.26 square inches.

Rocky Richmond of Big Drum Smokers is considered the father of the UDS by most big BBQ forums. His drums are very heavy guage and the people who own them are quite happy with them.

I used to be a dry kiln operator in a softwood sawmill. Drying wood is done in terms of DAYS, not HOURS.

One 3" exhaust has over twice the area as one 2" exhaust -- 3.14" square vs 7.07" square. I'd say your exhaust is too big. You could test it by partially covering the hole and see what it does to the temp.
Unless you're comfortable cooking there. Each drum will have it's own personality...
