Dr.K I suppose you could do either. But soldering the connector to the flag is somewhat permanent. I know you hope this is a permanent fix but one Never knows. When I did mine I didn't solder the connector to the flag. You will find the connector is a tight fit. That is a good thing. Jted
As you know a poor joint will cause a hot spot and cause the joint to fail. Since you soldered the joints that was not the problem That leads me to wonder if the heat shrink is of the low heat variety. There is a type that will work in hot environments. It is expensive but we would only use...
Yes,
As the Chef and Walta have said, In my opinion they are both right. Here is a unconventional fix.
Using the Chefs logic that I agree with. I did some testing and found that a hair drier, blower on high for about 10 minutes will dry out the element. A short extension cord of the right...
Hi, Welcome to the forum. Feel free to ask any question a member will answer. Here is a picture of a MES 30 with a AMNPS installed in a 20070910. Your basic starter smoker.
The first two show the bars to the left of the chip tray housing the third is the AMNPS installed. Full it will give...
Kjams, I see by the number of posts you are probably just getting started with the electric smoker. After reading this read the post on water pans and there use in electric smokers. It will help you a lot in the long run.. Jted
Bulldog, you are just learning that the Masterbuilt manual was written by someone who seldom used the smoker . If you have any question just post it and I assure you it will be answered. You will get some opinions and facts. Those will be answered by friendly knowledgeable people who want to...

If your smoker is full of white smoke that's your problem. You will here the term thin blue smoke ,Tbs well that is what you want. You don't want white smoke. The picture is a great example of what you...

Double insulated walls? I am not sure what you mean by Double insulated in this instance. When I think of double insulated I think of two layers of insulation separated by a air space. That this one does not have. However what it does have is a foam insulation that does a decent job. Lets...
Dirtsailer is right . All bends 45's and 90's do create resistance. Your exhaust will drain black nasty liquid back into your smoker depending on the air temps. Is it creosote I am not sure but it is commonly called that. Because of that Having a extra 90 or 45 will allow you to drain it off. I...
Hi, all of your answers are right by me. I use both access points with no harm to the door seal or wire. One caveat is I try not to run it at the hinge point Jted
Hi Kurt,
You asked for thoughts (opinions) These are mine and carry no more than others. As a owner and operator of a MES 30 and a working background of electric wiring my opinion of the 2 smokers are that they are wired cleanly in a workman like manner. As far as any thoughts on the wire...
John , You are right those who use the mail box mod are very happy with it. I have posted a shot of my RiverRat damper. It is easy to make up and the original post by RiverR
can be searched. Jted
Walta , You are a sharp guy. I know you know the very small amount of current not coming back to the GFCI will make it trip (4 to 6 thousands of a amp). True it is a possibility that a event of biblical proportion may occur. It is not very likely. If a owner user is that afraid of the GFCI...
Rod I have had the GFCI trip on occasions for over a year. I checked the smoker on 2 different GFCI's on different circuits and it tripped both. The last time it did this I used a hair dryer to heat up the element. After 5-10 minn I tried it on one of the GFCI's and it held. Also when I used the...
Hi John, Take a look at the riverrat damper. It uses the can idea and has a damper attached. It looks like you could manage the draft a little better with it than yours. Just a thought. Jted
