I'm still in the process of building my smoker but if you look at my pics fit up was spot on and my RF plate will be one size from one end to the other.
I too had the same questions even after going through the calculator. Dave and the guys here helped me understand what I was looking at with the numbers. Read through my post here and it may shed some light on your numbers and questions...
Been working on the smoker a little along. Started the door cutouts in the tank yesterday and tacked up some hinges. My question today is,
Would you weld the hinges on so the door is Removable or Non- Removable?
Not sure I understand what your tank looks like. If it looks like mine then read the entire thread. Also use this calculator for a reverse flow, http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/172425/standard-reverse-flow-smoker-calculator-by-daveomak-and-others-ready-to-use-rev5-6-19-15.
My build here http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/171029/new-guy-and-this-will-be-my-1st-reverse-flow-smoker-build/20 is also a 250 tank and I too had questions about the half moon, Read my thread and I think you'll get the answers your looking for.
Got the end for the firebox cut. Now on to the door cutouts and I have a couple questions. Look at my drawing and tell me where you think my door cutouts should be top and bottom. Note that if I cut the bottom at 3:00 my lower grate will be over 4" from my RF plate. I could go lower I suppose...
Quick question for y'all. I started cutting my tank this weekend and wanted to know where to make the Vertical cut, before the weld seam (dome side) or after the seam (cylinder side)?
Been doing a little work on the 1st firebox and already see changes I would make on the 2nd. I figured it wise to build one at the time instead of trying both at once. Here are a few pics of the firebox and door so far.
