This too is my favorite part of the deer. I normally used them as breakfast steaks with eggs and hashbrowns though. But again you prepared a fine meal.
Welcome to SMF. Dutch is right pork butts are great to start with and will turn the family onto eating smoked meats if they are not used to them. Just dont forget to look up the recipie on here for the finishing sauce. It is excellent.
I too am from Chinook, so first off thats quite a shock to see another on this forum from our little town. Anyway where the heck did you find that lump. I have been looking but have come up with nothing short of ordering it on the internet.

Thanks for all the advice I was in a hurry so I put some of the smaller Mesquite chunks in, I can smell the mesquite and the temp is at 275* but there is no smoke to speak of. Is this common or could it be that my chunks are just too big?
