Gonna bring me some leftovers, Shamp?
Lit my rig at 3 and I'll be putting on about 60# of pork in a few minutes...cooking for a friend's kid's open house today. It's 3 pm or bust!
I didn't engineer it, but I used 1/4" 2x4 stock for the skid that mounts to the trailer. I did that more for the weld area than the strength of the steel. I think the design of your mounts has more to do with a good attachment than the stock itself.
As to the grill...I'm with you on that...I...
A couple of add ons...
Replaced the balance of the floor and added a grill I made with my leftover pipe. The side table is reversible so it doesn't take any floor space. I'll fire up the grill when I use the smoker this weekend.
DFY...I put mine to the side and I don't have the hot spots you hear about...in fact, the side towards the FB end runs 10 degrees cooler depending how much it's choked down. Not sure if that's the reason, but I'm assuming its related.

This is pretty much the go-to I learned about here and used on mine. You'll need to plug in the inputs, but it should get you well on your way. Good luck!
Dang, look at that! Fantastic job. I'll bet you slept well the night after you did the test fire and everything burned right. I'm thinking PowerStroke for sure!
I've got the same thoughts as you with the counters next winter.
Smokingohiobutcher mentioned the poly material...anyone ever try that? Wondering how they'd hold up near the cook chamber.
Yup, the basket's all mine! The only thing I subbed out on the build was the sandblasting. Something about building a smoker gets you used to knocking things with angle stock and expanded steel pretty easy. Glad you guys like!
