3 weeks ago, I picked up a fairly new but used studio fridge in great shape ($50). It is 7.7 cu ft fridge space with about 3.3cu ft freezer storage. I have about 4 gallons of homemade bone broth frozen, 20 lbs. of cheese aging, and just pulled out 35 lbs. of pork that had sat with dry rub in...
Welcome, I m hooked on this website. So much fantastic info, and some really good discussions with people that are experts, or very close to experts. Great recipes, and information on how to make darn near anything on a smoker, and make the smoker itself. Welcome aboard.
You need an old fridge, mine is an 1951 GE. It is little on the smaller side, but works for everything I need. Mine had been on Oregon it's whole life. had very minimal rust. I use 220V electric with PID and a mailbox smoker. I can do cold and normal smoking. There is a section for fridge...
I was a machinist in my early days, and I loved cutting metal. I love smokin also. Almost nothing better. I finished a fridge smoker this year. I looking forward to seeing progress and finished work.
I just throw the ash from pellets in the grass for fertilizer. I read somewhere that it was good for the grass. I have a pellet stove in the garage for heating and have been dumping the ashes in the laws for 9 years.
I like the looks of those Patriots 76. I have been using welding gloves for the BBQ and smoker. I have used the old weber BBQ to burn the smoker shelves clean, at around 700+ degrees the welding gloves were great for temp, but there is no dexterity with the welding gloves
Wow, what a work of art. That is beautiful, I love the shelves, hinges, light. It all comes together. Not only that, the fish looks great! Fantastic Job!
Does anyone know how long vacuum packed smoke cheese will last in the fridge? I have been doing about 4-6 lbs at a time. The longest any of the cheese has lasted was 5 weeks after smoking. It gets eaten up or given away.
Welcome from out in Oregon, I am still a newbie to the forums. I have learned so much over the last year. built my own Fridge smoker, and I am getting better at smoking. I am lucky, my family loves the food, and my dishes have gone over great at work potlucks.
Welcome, You are in the right place. I had the smokin fever for about 15 years and always want to upgrade but never could find the smoker that would do what I wanted without selling kids. This last year I finally built my own. The cool thing is that there is so many ways to build "YOUR" own...
My weekend just started, I have 15 pounds of chicken drumsticks that I injected last night, I did 5lbs of Scarbelly recipe, 5 lbs of spicy blue cheese, and 5lbs of Thai Peanut butter. Plan on starting the smoke Monday AM with Hickory/Mesquite/COB.
Unfortunately this is the last smoke for the...
I also use to A-maz-n tray. I use cherry wood pellets. I have tried pellet dust and have trouble keeping it going. I have broken the pellets up into 1/4 inch lengths and that helps with slowing the burn/smoke. I agree the the tube puts out a lot more smoke/and heat. I am using a mailbox smoke...
Love it, both my wife and I got a great laugh out of it. Now if I could get my moles to the to of the holes with bacon that would be great since I am the mole patrol.
PART2:
I found a SS electric box at the industrial scrap yard. My son cleaned up some welds on the outside of the box (looked like it had been repurposed before), and he add a grounding lug inside. I add the viewing window on the front. Did some more body work, and painted it. All of the...
I finished my 1951 GE Fridge smoker! Took about 6 months or so. It has been quite a journey and learning experience. But most projects are always learning experiences. I want to thank many of you for your ideas that you have posted. There is so much information on the website, it is almost...
I am just finishing up a 1951 GE fridge. I may have gone a little overkill, but I used a normal large stove top element 2600W (240V). I put in a Auber Instrument SMD-200 (PID), with a 25Amp solid state relay(SSR). I can hold temps within a few degrees easily on my first test run. I tried...
I have been reading the treads here for a couple of months. I have been smoking for about 15 years with a $200 propane Smoke Vault. I have made a few minor mods to help it smoke better. I have always wanted to get a better smoker, but I could not find a good smoker in my price range.
I want...
