Heavy Smoker - How to Move

I have a 1000 pound toolbox that I built that I put these wheels on: https://www.harborfreight.com/5-in-rubber-heavy-duty-swivel-caster-61846.html They were terrible. Broke apart in the first week. Do you have a recommendation as to which specific wheel to use? I'm about fed up with harbor...

Heavy Smoker - How to Move

https://www.smokingmeatforums.com/threads/making-a-couple-120-gallon-offsets.289233/#post-1983353 Haven't started cutting yet, but the design is nearly complete. Should make the actual build go fairly smoothly. Thanks for the input! - Chris

Heavy Smoker - How to Move

y'know, I could probably get ahold of a couple heavy-duty pneumatic wheels and essentially make a two-wheeled furniture dolly for use when moving it. Thanks for the idea!

Heavy Smoker - How to Move

The ultimate resting place will be a concrete pad, but I have to pass through a grass area to get there at least initially when I first bring it home. I'm not averse to making a temporary cart to get it onto the concrete pad either.

Heavy Smoker - How to Move

I'm building a smoker for my backyard and it is looking like it'll be in the neighborhood of 1,100 pounds when it's all said and done. This is not going on a trailer, but I would still like to be able to shuffle it around on occasion. I'm looking for DIY ideas to make this thing not a nightmare...

    Baffling Advice Needed

That's actually what I first thought of. Get the water pan right into what should be the hottest part of the smoker! I've got the baffle shown sitting with the top surface even with the centerline of the tank. I'm 100% just eyeballing, but I don't feel like the 6" at 45° closes off the FB to...

Making a couple 120 gallon offsets

Thanks! I have a few more things to work out and then some dimensions to double check (grating height, spacing, etc) before I start cutting. But it won't be too long!

Making a couple 120 gallon offsets

It's been busy at work, but I finally had time to work on the design more this morning. I am still looking into exactly what I want to do with the baffle that I'd like to put at the FB to CC opening. I need to get my damper put on the exhaust as well. I'm going to make the grates out of...

Making a couple 120 gallon offsets

I'll have a door in the end of the FB for adding logs and whatnot. The top door was for access to the grate I'll have in there for searing. I figured it'd be a shame to waste a good fire, so I could use the FB for high direct heat cooking when needed. I will definitely need to make sure it's...

    Baffling Advice Needed

see what I did there..? nyuck nyuck nyuck I'll try to be short-winded (not my strong suit) I'm designing a 120 gallon offset ( https://www.smokingmeatforums.com/threads/making-a-couple-120-gallon-offsets.289233/ ) and, after seeing may folks have success with baffle/tuning plate setups, plan...

Making a couple 120 gallon offsets

So I think I found a design I like that should slightly improve airflow without being too far out in left field. What do you guys think? - Chris

Making a couple 120 gallon offsets

Finished the lower rack and added the stack today. I am toying with ways to smooth out the airflow transition from the horizontal plenum to the vertical stack. I know many people have things how I have it shown with quite a bit of success, but I'd like to see if I can improve things at all. I...

Making a couple 120 gallon offsets

made a little progress today, but spaced taking screen shots. Oh well, I can snag more in a day or two. I've figured that I'll want the grate height around 38" (±2"). I build a rolling toolbox/workbench around that height and it was a really comfy height for me to work off of. I'll re-measure...

Making a couple 120 gallon offsets

Made a little design progress at lunch today. Still have a long ways to go. Next hurdle is deciding how tall I want the door opening to be. I have the bottom edge about 1" below centerline to accommodate the sliding grates I'll be putting in there and still have the cooking surface be right...

Making a couple 120 gallon offsets

First debate to settle: FB location and design. If I'm cutting the third tank in half and using it, I can orient things a couple ways: 1) 2) 3) 4) Any one of the above, but space the FB furter to the right and make a duct of sorts that'd connect the FB and CC. In the interest...

Making a couple 120 gallon offsets

Hi all - Figured I'd start a thread to keep track of my progress on the smokers I'm designing/building. Nothing too extravagant - just a couple 120 gallon tank builds. I found a cheap supplier, so I bought three tanks. One for me, one for my dad, and one to either cut in half and use as fire...
