Kroger had briskets for $1.87 so I couldn’t resist. Got one for grinding tomorrow too.
Trimmed up ‘backyard’ style. Trim will go into grinder.
Thought it needed some ’help’
Seasoned up Texan, ready to go.
Into the trash can.
The drum held rock-steady at 250F (thanks to Billows)...
I just use my trusty kitchen scale and a Solo soufflé cup lid. Works great, don’t care where it comes from; throw it away when done. Faster than digging out some gadget. Cost: less than a penny.
That’s close to what I do. Brine if I’ve got time, light dusting with cornstarch, dry in refer then light duck fat spray as binder, then season.
I start smoke (190F) for 60 minutes then crank to 375F to IT of 175F, usually ~45 minutes. The low temp start will render some of the subcutaneous fat...
3 (Very) recently Learned Lessons: 1) Be Happy. Cooking quality food outside is always to be enjoyed; otherwise there’s Swansons. B) Improvise. Or have a backup plan (I’m terrible at backup plans). When things go runny (and they will) just remember God gave you a great brain. Don’t despair...
As an RVer, not much will destroy an awning faster than wind & hail as others have said. Plus, those buggers ain’t cheap.
One thought: my truck won’t fit in the garage either, but I put a mess of bigol honkin screw hooks along the fence cap of the fence next to the driveway, facing up. When...
Any way you could check the response time of your controller? Might be interesting. Maybe something like:
Set drum up for ‘un-assisted’ cook, using bottom vents as usual, fan plugged in but not installed. Once temp stabilizes to whatever your drum likes to run, set controller temp slightly...
This should not be happening; the fire should react (positively) to any increased availability of air, regardless of temp. I’d say check for air leaks but you say the fire extinguishes when fan turns off, leading me to suspect it’s not leaks (worth checking anyhow).
You didn’t mention where you...
Have high BP but am allergic to BP meds, it’s a real trial. Plus, I’ve had 5 ankle surgeries (a misspent youth playing soccer) so my exercise options are limited. Enough of my wingeing, sorry.
Believe it or not a good salt alternative is black pepper. Over the years I’ve replaced salt with black...
I have an antique RT680, so newer models may differ.
1) No. I use a small shop vac (bag removed) to empty pellets when I want to change load-out. Simple and has added benefit of keeping the pellet dust in the hopper under control. I simply dump the canister back into appropriate bin.
2) Yes...
Ok, no deterrent/repellant (well, maybe the second one) but two humorous reminiscences from decades past. 1) Took shiny new gf backpacking when a dillo came noisily a-rooting very near our tent. When asked, I sleepily replied “Just an armadillo“ and fell back asleep. Next morning I awoke to a...
100% in Garland, albeit cloudy.
As others said, pics (and my inept photo skills) didn’t do justice.
Got night-dark, streetlights came on and the cat was furious, thought she’d missed dinner.
